I am seeking advice on how to research a Norwegian sea captain who based himself in Yokohama by abt 1890 and married my great grandmother's sister Catherine Miller. They had two daughters Elaine Magreta Andersen born in Kobe Japan in 1891 and Katie Andersen born in 1894.

There is a listing in a Yokohama directory for 1895 for a Capt. C A Andersen working for the Nippon Yusen Kaisha (Japan Mail Steamship Co.) The next listing is in Kobe in 1897 at my great grandfather's home.

On his daughter's marriage certificate he is listed as Kristen Andersen ( a Master Mariner). Given the above listings we are not sure whether in fact his name was Christen or Kristen.

We beleive he died approximately 1900 but do not know how. His wife remarried by 1906. We estimate his birth date to be abt 1863.

I am keen to understand what records I can access to trace this Master Mariner relative of mine
