My 3 X great grandfather Hans Helmer Leth born 1785 Aust-Agder was a ships captain. When his son Samuel Nikolai Leth died in approx 1864, Hans adopted my great grandfather Jorge Emil Leth (b 1854 Arendal) as his ships cabin boy. Jorge escaped while the ship was docked at Port Adelaide around 1870 during the Australian gold rush era. .
I am searching for the name of the ship captained by Hans Leth so I can check arrivals in Australia . I would also wish to know on which ship was Jorge's father Samuel Nikolai Leth a ships carpenter before he died and if possible the circumstances surrounding his death.

Hi,
a hard nut to crack.

I have searced this historian crew lists here, could not find any Leth. Perhaps the database will be updated later.

Isaak Leth, Staff officer and Concul in Arendal bought a military wessel Admiral Tordenskjold build by Anders Schrĝder in Lillesand, Norway 1800 with 4 guns and a crew of 16 men about 1809. The ship wrecked outside Holland 1812.

Perhaps you know this add. information.
Isaac Leth was born in Porsgrunn 1757, bapt. August 1.
Parents Hans Kiemler Leth and Cathrine Leth, see right page 3. baptism from top, Isach.

It seems like the familyname Leth comes from both of Isaac´s parents.
His mother was Cathrine Isaacksdatter Leth, she married Hans Kiembler Olsen Leth in Porsgrunn July 21. 1750, see 1. page 4. wedding in Julius (July) here
Isaac Leth (her father) was best man.

I have seen Cathrine mentioned as Cathrine Helmer Isacksdatter Leth, if that is correct you know the origin of the name Helmer.
I can try to look for her bapt. record later today.

Sorry I was not able to help you with the ship name you asked for.

Vestre (Western) Porsgrunn, house nr 64 1801
Cathrine Leth is recorded with last name Helmer.
I think it was a middle name.
She lived as widow in her son Oluf Leth´s recidence.
Oluf Leth was Harbourmaster in Porsgrun married to Anne Regine Brangstrup, Maren Kristine was daughter to Anne Regines sister, Karen Pernille was a servant girl.

Cathrine Helmer Isaacksdatter Leth die 1803, buried in Vestre Porsgrunn church August 6.
See 1. page here.
August 6. Hans Kiemler Leths e (enke/widow) Catharina Helmer age 90.

Hans Kiemler leth died 1776, buried August 31.
Occ: Weier og Maaler: Weights and measures the ships cargo in the port sector.
On top 2. chapter here:
August 31 Wejer og Maaler Hans Kiemler Leth age 50

Jĝrg Emil is a mystery.

His brother Jens Martin Leth, unmarried, Chief Mate, emigrated 1903 via Kristiansand to Montana, USA.

I'm not sure what you mean by "mystery"?
Information about Georg Emil, chr 03 DEC 1854 in Tromĝy, Aust-Agder, has been revealed in earlier topics...

I have seen that, its also mentioned on top here.
I am looking after a posssible emigration record for Jĝrg although he escaped during the Australian gold rush era around 1870 and the ship captained by his father, it might be mentioned in a register.
