His baptismal record says the parents were renters at Vaagene in Kinn parish, Sogn og Fjordane County.
The Vaagene farm does not seem to exist any longer, but you might get a feeling where it was since you get a hit with Vågeneset, Bremanger in this map.

Thanks for that help in understanding the baptismal record.
I've been to the museum Library in Napier nad there only seems to be a partial passenger list, is there anywhere else I can find one? Or and alternative departure
record from Hamburg? Any help appreciated. Thanks Kim

The 1875 "Friedeburg" (Hamburg to Napier) passenger list held at Napier Museum has sustained serious damage (from insects, I believe), and portions of the list have been irretrievably lost.

I have seen photocopies of portions of the list held in Hamburg, but don't know how to access the Hamburg list, or how to obtain a copy. Sten Aminoff also refers to the Hamburg list in his book, "Svenskarna I Nya Zeeland: Den svenska utvandringen till Nya Zeeland fram till 1940."

If anyone could provide information on how to obtain a copy of the Hamburg list, that would be very helpful.

OK, so this inspired me to have another look.

Found the following listing (physical condition unknown) at New Zealand Archives:
http://archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?OID=20351898
Passenger list of the "Friedeburg" (ship) - Hamburg 10 May 1875 - 24 August 1875, photocopy - (See also MICRO-Z 1 and REPRO 20 which includes this list)

Also:
http://archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewEntity.do?code=19333
Passenger list of 'Friedburg' [record group] (19333)
1875? - 1875? range held: 1875 - 1875

Note: the "Friedeburg" made more than one voyage to NZ which is important to know if you are going to spend money accessing archives.

Sorry for misleading you, Samson Johannes Salamonsen was born in Kinn parish. (I have corrected the posting).
Svano = Svanø is a farm in Kinn
Ouslandsbotten = Oslandsbotnen is a farm in Kinn
Waagene = Vaagene is a farm in Kinn.

"I 1ste egteskab" (I 1ste ekteskap) = in the first marriage,
"Usel gaardmand " (Ussel gårdmann) = farmer not very well off.
