I am searching for info on Johannes and Martha Sorbergshagen. They were fromSondre Land area and emmigrated to USA July 1850 Cannot find them on the ships lists...Johannes brother Even used the last name of Johanneson. Johanes was actually born at Sorbergshagen so perhaps he was the only one who used that surname. I believe that Martha was Martha Christiansdatter Hagen

I can hardly believe that I never saw your response until now and that was just by accident. Johannes Sorbergshagem was born 2/21/1835, married toMarthe Christiansdatter Hagen Born 12/15/1840. according to the Land Emmigration Book they left Norway July 1/1867. They may have had 2 children Christina and Martinus. I believe they both died on the ocean voyage. They may have been living somewhere other than Sorbergshagen befor they left Norway.

I did not realize that I could look in the actual record and I believe that I see John not Johannes in the Land book born on 02/21/1835 to Johannes Evenson and Kari Johannesdatter Sorberg...I beleive this has to be the John I am searching for...I cannot decipher the other names on that line...I always thought his name was Johannes.

Your Johannes Sørbergshagen was baptized John, see #56.
Parents Johannes Evensen and Kari Johansdatter, his name before emigration therefore is John Johannesen.

When Johannes Sørbergshagen married he was a soldier and his name was given as Johan Johansen. He married Marte Marie Christiansdatter Nov 17 1861, see #17.
In 1865 they were living on Høibakken and had a son Johannes, 3 years old.

Johannes, the first son of Johan Johannesen and Marte Marie Christiansdatter, was born June 22 1863, see #93.
The parents were then on Nordbergeiet.
The daughter (Christina) Kristine was born Jan 8 1866, see #22.
No hit with emigration record.

I wonder if the emigration were recorded for this family.
Not all were.

The family brought with them a passport with a discription of the owner and permission to emigrate to America signed by the Bailif in Hadeland and Land bailif area.

There were Land settlements in
Hillsboro N. Dakota
Zumbrota and Norway Lake, Minnesota,
West Paint Creek, Iowa
Rock Prairie, Wiota, Richland Co and Tempeleau Co,Wisc.

They called themselves Landinger in the US.

Thanks for checking the immigration lists...I feel there must be some record because many years ago I wrote to the Lensmannen of Sondre Land and he told me that they emmigratied on July 1,1867. I don't know is of anyh help to you, but it may be.

I understand.
Normally July was very late for an emigration.
I also looked into Nordre Land 1867, the latest em. there was Mai. 31.
For Søndre land there were no em. on July 1. 1867

Thanks once again...I feel they may have entered the US through Canada as my German Great-grandparents did ...I wonder why the Lensmannen would hae told me that date...Perhaps I could have made a mistake in reading it. I can't seem to find the letter at this time. I wonder if it could have been maybe June 1??
