Here is some info about Karl August's father.
But I still can't see any connection to the Johnsen family from Lilleby in Stjørdal, Nord-Trøndelag. Possibly the connection comes though Karls mother?

The Johnsen's did move to Namsos though, which was Karl Svarva's hometown when he emigrated...

Mikal Tomassen in census-1900.
Mikal married Lorentse Karlsdr Malmplass (b. 1843) in 1877.
They got two children: Tomas b. 1877 and Karl Bertin b. 1879. Mikal died 13 May 1901.

And possibly one more illegitimate child for Mikal:
Ole Nicolai
Born 10 Jan 1846, chr 15 Mar 1846, Solberg, Beitstad, Nord-Trøndelag
Parents: Bachelor Michael Thomassen Elnen and girl Martha Olsdatter Bardal.
Ole Nicolai married Marine Petrine Henriksdatter and they got 7 children.
Ole Nicolai in census-1865. Olava Olsd. is Mikal's aunt. (Sister of Thomas Olsen Dahl). Tomas Olsen Dahl was a farmer on Viset in Beitstad.

Elen Thomasdr (48) where Mikal resides in Census-1865 is his sister.

This info comes from Beitstadboka, volume 3.

Again, thanks so much for everyone's input. You guys are fantastic!! I am busy diving into all the links to learn more about the naming practices and relationship rules and so forth. It has been fun pouring over the maps! I had already discovered the links to the roots.web discussion on Karl and John Johnson. That thread is what led to to this forum as the woman who was making the inquiries was a member here. When I searched her name I found another thread on this site. : ) yippeee!

I will take everything and run as far as I can with it. Guess it is time to learn to read Norwegian and Danish!
