#7 marriage record for Johannes (Arnesen) Christiansen and Kari Syversen.

Census records show birthplace as Hedmarken or Vangs PR
I just realized that this says Valdres?

If this really says Valdres I have been looking in the wrong spot! No wonder I can't find her!

Can someone with good eyes let me know what they think and where you think the best place to track her birth records might be.

Thanks!

David

Yes same people just looking to see if I was looking in the wrong place. Ihave gone through the ones suggested and have not been able to find anything. After going back and re reading I saw that it could be Valdres (or it could be Valders?).

Hi

Her name is Kari Syversdatter with Østberg as farmname.

Oct 26, 1832 a girl by this name with farmname Østbergeje and about the same age left Ringsaker parish. No 53 right page:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6012&idx_id=6012&uid=ny&idx_side=-94

In the same parish a girl by the name Kari Syversdatter was confirmated 1824. No 472 right page:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=9076&idx_id=9076&uid=ny&idx_side=-236
She came from the farm Kommerstad.
Eje at the end of Østberg means a farm owned by Østberg. The name of this subfarm might of course have been Kommerstad.
No names of her parents.

I have not found her baptizm. (Might of course have missed it.)

Thank you. I have quickly looked and do not see a baptism record either. I am trying to learn how to look through all these records and I realize it is a lot of trial by error, but what made you look for her in Ringsaker? What clue did I miss? Just trying to learn so I don't feel so helpless and lost!

Thanks again.

If I am reading the migration record she went to Christiania - would it be logical to search for her coming into parishes in Christiana? Did people generally register or did they have to when they moved into a new parish?

Hi

Kari left Ringsaker and went to Christiania.

Her future husband Johannes was born in Christiania around 1809 to parents Christen Arnesen and Ane Maria Jonasdatter. (Have I got this correct?) I have only found his birth on FamilySearch, but I have found siblings baptized in Oslo Domkirke.
Here is his family in the 1801 census:
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=34&filnamn=f18010301&gardpostnr=202&personpostnr=2282&merk=2282#ovre
(Johannes not yet born)
Johannes and at least two of his brothers moved to Fredrikstad, as I understand it.

It is far from always noted when someone leaves or moves to a parish.

Thank you. I have not been able to find anything on Johannes birth or his mothers name. What is family search?

Johannes moved to Fredrikstad where he married Kari and their children were born. I am not sure if they died there or not.

I will look for the births of his siblings in Oslo Domkirke.

Thanks again!

reading the 1801 census it looks like Christen Arentzen mother is living with them? Her name is Bendithe. What does" Enke efter 2det ægteskab" mean?

Hi

You found Arne, who might be an older brother of Johannes.
Here is what is written:
Christen Arnesen hjulmagersvend (=wheelwright journeyman)og hustru (= and wife) Anna Maria Jonasdatter, deres søn (=their son) Arne (født den 5te Aug?) (=born Aug 5). Not sure about Aug.
All the names are godparents/sponsors.

Thank you. Guess I will try to track down her marriages and see where that leads me. Is Bendithe a name? I have not run into that before?

Yes. It's a spelling variant (or spelling mistake) of Benedicte.
In the 1801 census, you'll find the name spelled in a lot of different variants. (The number refer to #of occurrencies in the 1801-census):

1 Bendeke
1 Bendette
4 Bendi
1 Bendia
1 Bendica
8 Bendiche
2 Bendichta
2 Bendichte
1 Bendichtha
1 Bendict
16 Bendicta
5 Bendicte
1 Bendictha
1 Bendicthe
2 Bendie
2 Bendigta
2 Bendigte
1 Bendike
1 Bendikka
1 Bendikke
2 Bendikta
1 Bendikte
1 Benditha
1 Bendithe
1 Benediche
7 Benedichta
1 Benedichte
44 Benedicta
26 Benedicte
5 Benedictha
1 Benedicthe
1 Benedigta
1 Benedigte
1 Benedikta
5 Benedikte
1 Benete
1 Beneth
1 Benethe
1 Beneticte
3 Benette
1 Benina
2 Benitte
1 Bennedichte
1 Bennedicta
1 Bennedicte
1 Bennedikte

Not all names are neccesarily the same, but it gives you an indication on how different spellings can make it quite hard to search in the databases...
