My Great Great Grandfather Erick Erickson was born July 21, 1841 in Vik Parish, Sogn og Fojordane, District 3. He immigrated to America April 12, 1865 and settled in Albert Lea Minnesota his parents were Erick Tryten & Anna Olsdatter. I am hoping to find more info on the Tryten line. I know the farm name is Tryti but so far have not been able to locate any further info. If Someone can possibly point me towards websites, data bases, etc that might help I would appreciate it.

Thank you,
Annette

The bapt record for Erik is #53 his father was Erik Ellendsen (or Ellingsen), Tryti and the mother Anna Olsdatter.
I read his birth as July 29 and bapt Aug 8.
Erik was confirmed April 22 1855, see #8.

You can research in the church records of that area.
The Digitalarkivet web site has been adding scanned images of the original Norwegian parish church records for anyone with Internet access since November 2005.

The Digitalarkivet web site - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar
An English option is available by clicking on that word from either the left hand column or the blue link bar along the bottom of the homepage.
The scanned images are available from the homepage link "Skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Digitised parish records" [English version] which is listed along the left hand column and from the blue banner of links along the top section of the homepage.
After you've clicked on that link and a new main page has presented on the screen be sure and read the instructions that are available from the Digitalarkivet for navigating the scanned records. The instructions are available in Bokmål (official Norwegian), Nyorsk (Norwegian), Davvisámegiella (Saami), and English.
Recommended basic reading are the "Startsiden" [Norwegian version]/"Main page" [English version], "Brukerveiledning" [Norwegian version]/"User's guide" [English version] and "Om tjenesten" [Norwegian version]/"About this service" [English version].

Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site -
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na20.html

There are databases for the 1801 and 1865 Norwegian censuses. The 1865 census was done 31 Dec 1865 so you wouldn't expect to find Erick Erickson (b. 1841) in either of those.

You can check what might be available through the Regional Encyclopaedia for Sogn og Fjordane.
http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/nrk_sogn_og_fjordane/fylkesleksikon/1457849.html

There are published history/genealogy volumes (bygdebøker) available for Vik in Sogn og Fjordane.
"Bygdabok for Vik i Sogn", 3 volumes by Olav Hoprekstad; "Ein Stad Skal Ein Vera: Utvandringa Frå Vik i Sogn" by Rasmus Sunde.

Hi Einar,

Thank you for the update on Eric Ellingsens parents. From the info you listed would I be correct stating that the farm name of Tryti was the farm from which his mother came from? The link you sent is great unfortunately I do not read Norwegian so finding gems like this on my own have been a bit of a stumbling block. Are you from Vik Parish in Sogn og Fojordane? Thank you again for the information.

Annette

Yes, Anna Ericsdatter in this marriage came from Trytti (Tryti/Tryten).
The links you see is mainly from parish books, biggest challenge at times is to dechiffer the handwritings. I do not come from Vik, but along with many others I have ancestors from the area.
