I have found on the digital archive that Hans left to go to the U.S. in 1873, June 6th. Name used was Hans Andreas Olsen.

But, the information said the boat when to Hull, then had other options for ships going from Liverpool to New York or Quebec.

However, I cannot find any entry information for him or census data until 1910, Iowa, using Hans Halsrud.

Any help would be appreciated for ship listing or entry information or earlier census data.

Thanks, Joe.

The 1910 census shows Hans to be 58 yrs old - therefore born about 1852.

If I have absolutely no idea about WHERE in Norway someone came from I like to search first on NHDC Norwegian census databases.

Perhaps your Hans Olsen of a Halsrud farm will match the following one from Søndre Land, Oppland, Norway. There were quite a few Norwegian settlers from Hadeland, and Land areas of Oppland that settled in that part of Humboldt Co.

If he was from Søndre Land - I would expect that he sailed from Oslo/Kristiania.

Yes, I know this guy is the first of our family to come from the Dokka area (Halsrud farm).

I see his 1910 Iowa census information.

But, I cannot find anything earlier -- inbetween leaving Liverpool and 1910.

Joe.

Syverine is still in Bode for the 1920 US census - was she still alive for the 1925 Iowa state census? That would be well worth your checking. That census collected names of both parents!

My relatives who emigrated to the same general area entered through the port of Quebec. Did you search those records?

Looking for a Hans Olsen/Olson or some unknown misspelling of Halsrud.... hmmm

Argh! I see her death notice from 1927, but she does NOT seem to be in the 1925 state census listing.
