I am attempting to research information on my husband's grandma, Nettie (Modahl) Olson. Her mother's name was Bertha Torkildson and father was Lars Modahl. Married Carl A. Olson in 1916 in Sheridan Cty Montana. She is buried in Pelican Rapids MN, I think. She said she came over on a ship when she was about 14 yrs old.

Would this be her living in the Fergus Falls State Hospital shortly before her death. This is from the 1930 US Census on Ancestry.com. It indicates that she was born about 1861 in Norway.

Name: Nettie Olson

I found that, thank you, but I guess I failed to mention that Nettie didn't die until the early 1980's. She said she came over on a ship with her parents when she was around 14 or so...so I think that puts her coming over around 1909 or so???

I believe Nettie Modahl could be Tonette Modal b. 1894, emigrating from Stavanger on July 15th, 1905 together with parents and 6 siblings.

Lars A. Modal 1862
Berthe Modal 1864
Sigbjørn Modal 1887
Stina Modal 1889
Tore Modal 1892
Tonette Modal 1894
Torkel Modal 1897
Oskar Modal 1900
Kristian Modal 1902

Border Crossings: From Canada to U.S., 1895-1956: Tonetto Modal, 1905
Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935: Tanatta Modal, 1905

Not sure what you want to do with it, but I'm confident it the woman you're seeking.

Here is census 1920 for Sheridan, Montana:
Carl A Olson, b 1889 in Minnesota
Nettie Olson, b 1895 in Norway
Lois Olson, b 1917 in Montana

Just trying to piece it all together and trace her roots back to Norway. Thank you soooo much. Yes, it is her. Lois is her daughter and Carl her husband. Can you tell me where she is buried, I would love to bring my husband there...he was very close to his grandma and always felt she should have been buried on the farm in Montana.

Holy cow! How do you find stuff so quick??? I am sooo overwhelmed. So I figured out how to click on the # thing and save the documents.

Is there any history on her family in Norway? Husband said she would return every year to visit family.
