I think it looks like Lörensen or Sörensen. Are you related to many farms in the area? I'm related to quite a few. The main farms being Auestad, Tveit and Risland. It's a beautiful area!

Thank you Doug that is more informatin than I had expected to get but it is most appreciated.

Yes Wanda I have a lot of family living or having lived at various farms in Aust-Agder and a few in Vest-Agder. Most of my relatives currently live in the costal area of Arendal, Grimstad and Lillesand but a few still live back off the coast in some of the small farms that are so prevalent in the area. I think in an old post of mine we discussed relationships around some of my ancestors from Grimstad parish in Vest-Agder. I am sure if we dug deep enough we would come up with many common ancestors.

Yes, that is correct! I didn't realize your family was also from the Mykland area, as I think we discussed a possible connection in Vest-Agder. My family is in the Mykland/Åmli area and also the Søndeled/Risør area. Good luck with your search. I had a relative that was listed as Lorensen on an immigration record, but was also really Sorensen. I haven't had time to do much research, but hope to start up again this Fall.

My most immediate family also comes from the Mykland/Åmli region. In fact my grandmother Ingaborg Tellefsdatter Frigstad was baptized in the Mykland church. Two summers ago I had the pleasure of visiting that area and was lucky enough to have visited the Mykland church. The farms most often found in my ancestry list are Klepsland, Rostveit, Haukom, Dovland. Further back in time look for the names such as Osmund Skreeros, Klemmet Lauvrak, Povel Foss and Torjuss Herefoss from around 1550. These are the people that most Aust-Agder families end up tracing their famlies back to. To go further back is difficult with any certaintity but in Vest-Agder one can sometimes go back to around 1400.

When were you there? I visited the Mykland church at the beginning of July, 2008, right after the forest fires had almost taken that church. I may be related to Lauvrak, by marriage, but not a direct line. Otherwise, I'm not related to any of the farms you mentioned. That I know of. :-) I visited my relative on Auestad and he recently sent me Myklands Historie, Kultursoga 1832 - 2009. Stories about the culture on those farms, during that time. Another cousin, sent me the Mykland bygdeboks, so I now have the history of that family, as far back as I can go. It's a beautiful area, hoping to go back next year!
