My great grandmother was born Dec 18/1858 and was married to Ole Anderson(Riulf Olai) on July 1/1881 in Moorehead, Minnesota and died and was buried in Rollag Lutheran Church Cemetery Minnesota from childbirth May 9/1900. I sent for the death record and most of it is not filed out- parents, etc. I saw one document which I think was a Mormon one and it said she was born Sacred Heart Renville, Minnesota. I have tried several places there and can not seem to trace her family. She was known as the "Levorsen" girl and her marriage certificate sdays Cass County Dakota and lists her as Lena Olsen and she is buried with her married last name as Live Anderson? Any idea where I go from here to find her family. No records in family. Brenda Armstrong

If she was born in US, possible parents could be Levor Olsen and Guri Eriksdatter who emigrated in 1858, see Passport journal from Hallingdal - they had two sons Ole and Helge, were they brothers of Lena/Liv?

Hi,

You probably already have this info but here it is again, MOMS:

CLAY 000A-290 7/1/1881 ANDERSON, OLE OLSEN, LENA

A check for Lena Olson in the online transcription of the 1880 US census for Lena Olson found only 7, two from Minnesota, none from Dakota Territory, www.familysearch.org.

Since it appears that Lena was not counted in the 1900 US census perhaps a look at the 1895 Minnesota State Census might improve the information base on her. Also you may have to look into church records of the baptisms of her kids. Sometimes there are "adjustments" to the names of the parents which give you a clue and also the names of godparents which could indicate familial relations.

Here is a possible Liv Olsdatter:

County: Pope
Locality: Blue Mounds
Birth Location: Norway
Gender: Female
Estimated birth year: abt 1858

Hi,

Here are Ole Anderson marriages from Rock county found in MOMS:

ROCK M89-A578R 8/30/1889 ANDERSON, OLE M OLSON, CAROLINE
ROCK M91-B91R 12/10/1891 ANDERSON, OLE S OLSON, CARRIE T

Ole S Anderson is Ole Sevatson b. Aal Hallingdal 1863, the other Ole's origin, I don't know.

Never mind....

I'd guess there should be some Andersons in Clay County, Minnesota in the 1885 or 1895 Minnesota State Census.

Yes Jackie there are over 1000 of them. There is one female named Live in 1885, . Married to Olaf. No other good fits with births around 1858.

Name: Live Anderson
Census Date: 1 May 1885
County: Clay
Locality: Tansem
Birth Location: Norway
Gender: Female
Estimated birth year: abt 1859

Well with more investigation I beleive that this is the correct Live. She is living with husband Olaf 27 and son Alfred 1. The next post tho is not the same person and probably has nothing to do with this Live.

The key is the township Tansem. Althouigh Brenda you do not have an Alfred in your Family Tree so I may be wrong.

Hi,

It wasn't that I meant you were slack, it just didn't seem possible that there weren't some Andersons in Clay county.

Any others in the house with Live Anderson in 1885?

The 1900 census entry is interesting but wasn't the target supposed to be dead in May 1900, census taken at an earlier date? On the other hand the time of marriage is given as 11 years which wouldn't be quite right either.

Curioser and curioser...

I think this is probably her in the 1895 Minnesota State and Territorial Census. The transcriber changed an L into an S. Looking at the orginal census, while difficult to read, I think it could easily be Leve or Levi or Live. She is married to Ole Anderson with one child daughter Alfine age 6.

Name: Seve Anderson
Census Date: 1895
County: Clay
Locality: Tansem
Birth Location: Norway
Gender: Female
Estimated birth year: abt 1859
Race: White

In the 1905 Minnesota Territorial and State Census, here is Ole now with Carrie living with him, children are Alphine 16, Walter 9, Lester 5 and new child Cora age 2. We probably now need to have the poster wheigh in on the correctness of the family.

Gender: Male
Estimated birth year: abt 1858

In the 1880 US Census Ole Anderson is probably this person already living in Tansem Township, Clay County. I did find his mother and many of his sibling living in Douglas County at this time. Interesting that Ole is living with a family named Olson. I do not see a Live or Liv among them.
