Volume V of Naeseth's Norwegian Immigrants to America has a listing from Favoriten (a brig sailing from Stavanger 16 May 1850 to New York on 26 June 1850, Captain Westergaard) but there is no one of the name Knud Knudson on the list. There are two Knudsdatters Bertha Maria b. 1841 and Berta Karina b. 1849. The oldest folks on the list are J. Bringeland age 51, Christian Ollson age 46, & Ingeborg Bringeland age 47.
The bio on Berthe Torgersdatter Vold who is on the list mentions that her first husband was Knud Knudson Reishus, who was a sailor and was gone many years and Berthe married a second husband in America even though apparently later Knud was not found to be dead but he had settled in America...
There are several Knud Knudsons in the name index in this book, including these listed in a later section saying these are mentioned being developed from secondary sources which include Norge i Texas page 252-254 and a researcher named Derwood Johnson.

Son Knud Andreas Knudsen b. 1847 used the name Andrew C. Canuteson in US m. Jan 1869 to Andrea Peierson b 1848 d. 1886 6 children, Andrew married 2nd to Martha Johansdatter 1 child noted.

I think perhaps Jens married Eli Sirene Sørensdatter Koppervik, Karmøy, parents Søren Rasmussen Kolletre 1781-1835 and Eli Malene Olsdatter 1788-1859, born Jan. 23. bap. June 25. 1820, see right page #23.

Along with Kåre I found the marriage informatin here http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp by entering name - Ole Knutsen, life event - Marriage, year - 1878, country - United States, state - Illinois.
My info. comes from Karmøy Historian Assosiation, farm register (click on Bygdbøker, left margin), church records and other info. online.
Nordstokke and Rindå is ab. one inch from the bottom, farm nr 056-057 and 069 and Stangeland nr 11.
Changing a name; Often the initials were kept in the US.
With so many names you will probably need some time to sort out a family tree. The Norwegian part seems correct, could be some married a 2. time in the US, a wrongspelling, this is more than 150 years ago?

The parish records for Tinn in Telemark are available for years as early as circa 1717 so you probably could find information in those books about the parents births.

Hopkins, Can you tell me how to search the sites for the name Knut Halvorsen Nordstokke b: abt 1758? I have DIS-Norge for Tinn in my favorites so I can find that. Can I search this for him? How? I have a big language barrier here I can go to Tinn, 1757-1810, skannet ministerialbok and look under fodt for births. Must I go through the year 1758 page by page for him? How do I know when I have the right person? I know his father would be Halvor but what would Halvor's surname be being I don't know his father's name? And then you add Farm names? Well, I looked at the LDS site, and again how do I know which one might be him? I am sure it is simple for you, and I feel at a loss with not being able to read the Norwegian language but a word or two here and there. I do have a dictionary I can look words up on. (That's if it is not hand written and I can't make out the letters) If you could Explain on how to do this it would help a great deal.
I read about it in Tinnsoga a while ago, think it was Knut Halvorsens parents, but I did not make any notes. Can´t remember if they came from Espeseth.

Some more Karmøy info. Norway is named after the fjord/fairway between Karmøy and the mainland. The first written document mention a viking, Ottar from Hålogand´s travel ab. 890 AD to Russia, and this fairway as Nordweg , later Norvegia, Northwegia, Noregr, the Northern route (the way northwards), todays Norge /Noreg - Norway.
Yes, anyone would have to go through the parish records page by page. You the person actually related to those being sought or complete strangers who have no relationship.
I was under the impression that Nordstokke was the name of the farm in Rogaland where they lived much later in their lives. Tinn also??? That seems highly doubtful.
I don't read the Norwegian language either - so no it is not simple for me. But I do make all efforts to do it myself.
The parish records have to be dealt with one by one -- no parish is identical to any other.
