With all the help I have had from this forum I try again to see if I can trace my grandmother Magdalene Mathisen, who I believe was born in 1872 somewhere in Norway. She gave birth to my father, Bjarne Henrik Johan, on 22 March 1904 in Trondheim. The father was Henrik Johanson Melgaard. They never married and Henrik left them both and emigrated to Canada in 1908.
For additional info see my family tree at: http://www.myheritage.com/site-family-tree-126518891/melgaard

- do you have a birth/bapt record, where in Trondheim was he baptized?
Possible update of your Slektstre: From info in the marriage record for Johan Hartvig Wulf Jakobsen and Bergithe Christine Olsdatter, see #1 the brides baptismal record is #17 - she was born June 8 1842 and baptized Birgithe Christiane July 10. Her parents were Ole Andersen, Heimen and Brynhild Christiansdatter. |

Henrik in 1900.
Most likely Magdalene/Magdalena Mathisen in 1900. |

I must say I am deeply impressed by the speed and accuracy of you guys. I was just about to add some information: 1. My father's birth certificate was issued by Sokneprest Anders Hovden in Melhus in 1915. 2. From Soknepresten in Byneset, 7074 Spongdal I have been able to get a confirmation that my father was baptised in Leinstrand Kirke 29th April 1904. His parents then informed that they lived (and proably worked) at Hotel Angleterre, Rosenborggt 21 in Trondheim. The hotel does not exist anymore.
But now I have a lot of new information to go on and I'm sure you have found the right person. Thank you so much all of you!

Hi
Do you know when and where your father was confirmated? If the church-book is online it might give us some new information. |

No, sorry. Wish I knew but alas.. all I know is that when he was confirmated, he was given the choice of either be named Henriksen after his fathers's first name or Melgaard after his father's family name. He then chose Henriksen, which was our family name until 1962 when he was given permission to take back the family name Melgaard. |
