Gran is in Hadeland district in Oppland, while Nordrehov is in Ringerike, Buskerud. Looks like they might be adjacent. How close together are they? How was travel between them in the early 1800s? Thanks. Kay

Use Wikipedia and you will get better info than I can give here.

When searching use Norderhov, not Nordrehov, and Gran, Norway.
Ringerike and Gran are adjacent municipalities.

Norderhov church.

Gran churches.

Thanks for the reply. Churches are beautiful. I see that they are close together.
My question - do Norderhov parish and the Gran parish meet each other - at the Buskerud/ Oppland border?
The maps I found do not show the parish boundaries.
Thanks again. Kay
Sorry - guess I should have listed this question under "Locations"

If you Google "Kart Oppland kommuner" and select "Oppland - Wikipedia" you should get this - Gran green colour close to the bottom.

Likewise Google "Kart Buskerud komuner" and select "Buskerud - Wikipedia" and you shoul get this - Norderhov is part of present Ringerike.

You should see that Gran and Ringerike have common border.

Hi, borders has changed.
Ringerike and Gran has common border, Norderhov parish with about 350 recidents who previously also consisted of the two parish´s Hønefoss and Årdal is now a part of Ringerike municipality.
I doubt Norderhov as municipality had common border with Gran.

The distance between Norderhov and Gran is about 30 Miles.

Certainly things have changed, excerpts from Wikipedia:
"Norderhov municipality was established on January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). According to the 1835 census the municipality had a population of 7,234. On 22 April 1852 the city of Hønefoss was separated from Norderhov to constitute a separate administrative unit. In 1857 the rural district Ådal was separated from Norderhov, leaving Norderhov with a population of 6,846.

In 1938 a part of Norderhov with 268 inhabitants was moved to Hønefoss, and on 1 January 1964 the rest was merged with Hønefoss, Ådal, Tyristrand and Hole to form the new municipality Ringerike. Norderhov was by far the largest municipality prior to the merger, with a population of 15,143."

Map with borders of Gran in the north, Jevnaker in the south-west and Lunner in the south-east Hadeland.

Similar map of Ringerike not available. Map of parishes in
Buskerud - Norderhov is in the southern part of Ringrike.

Thanks for the great information. Looks like Hadeland and Ringerike are adjacent.
But not Gran ( north part of Hadeland) and Norderhov (south part of Ringerike).
Helpful to know that Gran and Norderhov are about 30 miles apart.

Reason I wanted to know - Family said that Soren Larsen was born in Hadeland, 1790, and later came to Norderhov church to be the caretaker of the church. However, I found his christening record in Norderhov parish 26 Dec 1790.
1801 census, he lived with parents on Hallingbye.
Went to America 1851 - found the exit record of his family (12 people). Ship Richard Cobden.
Soren died about 2 days after reaching Muskego Wis. Of the 12 people, only 3 survived the sea trip and disease epidemic in Wis.
