Her obituary says "A native of Norway, she was born Johanna Klock, Sept. 2, 1873." I was told she came as a young unmarried girl, so somehwhere around 1890. She was married in Madelia, Minnesota in 1893. Her death certificate gives her father's name as Martinus Nolkk, but that doesn't come up either.
I have searched the digitalarkivet in the 1875 census for Johanna born in 1873 but did not find that surname, or Klokk. So where do I go from here to find out where in Norway she was born?

This link for emigration works better.

Carl Martinus Klok #38 is the same as Martinus B. Klokk in the 1900 census.
Johanne M Klok (emigrating in 1893) is the same as Johanne Birgitte born Sept 1 1873, daughter of Carl Martinus Berntsen, Klok and Birte Kanutte Petersdatter.

Oh My Gosh! I can't believe that you found her! I was putting in Klokk with two k's for the surname, instead of one, and coming up blank. Thank you so much. eibache, Kaarto and dodgeboy12!!!!

Since she emigrated in 1893, and was married in 1893, it sounds like it was a pre-arranged marriage. She married Peter Martin who is also from Norway, so now I will have to look for him!

I was mistaken about Peter Martin. He was born in Madelia, Minnesota in 1870, but his father Alfred was born in Norway and his mother was Syna Johnson of Norway. this is from his death certificate, so don't know how accurate. Alfred probably also Americanized his name.
