My grandfather came to Canada in 1914. I have a Canadian census showing he immigrated and lived with his brothers Sivert and Gustav.
Can you assist me in determining the ship he arrived on, the port of entry and ancestry of his parents? Thank you for all your help in the locations on my grandfathers and my grandmother who all came from Norway.

Emigration information.

I believe you grandfather was baptized Johan Andreas, born July 25 and baptized Aug 19 1900 in Oddernes, see #38.
His parents were Jens Strai (1843) and Anne Kristine, née Kristensen (1859), at Oddermarken.
Johan Andreas (here named John) #3308, his parents and siblings in 1900.

Johan Andreas was confirmated in Kristiansand, dec 1913, see #30. He was the living at Waisenhuset (a home for orphanes).

Johan Andreas father was actually Jens Syvertsen, Stray. He was born July 3 1843, see #38. His parents were Syvert Jensen and Astrid Isaaksdatter, øvre Ugland.
Jens and his parents in 1865.
Johan Andreas mother, Anne Christine Christensen, was born out of wedlock Sept 7 1859, see 9th record. Her parents were bachelor Christen Christensen and maiden Anne Thorsdatter.

Thank you for the information. Is there any information to indicate why my grandfather (Johan Andreas) was living in a home for orphans? Did something that happened to his parents?

Johan Andreas sister Alma is recorded as a foster child living in Kristiansand at the 1910 census.
Their parents were most likely dead in 1910 although I have not found any evidence of that.

I have a little research on Astri Isaaksdatter that show that her parents are Isaak Marcusen (as you indicate) born 1790 and her mother as Guri Christensdatter born 1781. Is it possible that Isaach had another wife? The file shows their children are Astri Isaakdatter, Gunder Isaachsen and Maren Isaachsdatter. This file in on ancestry.ca family tree brendacook11.

Sorry, my fault, Astri Isaaksdatters mother was Guri Christensdatter. I have made changes in my posting.
Guri Christensdatter was a widow when they married Oct 20 1817, see
5th record on left page.

Their son Gunder (Gunner) was born July 24 1821, see #22.

Maren was born May 26 1824, see #6.

Guri Christensdatter was baptized Sept 16 1781, see 2nd record on left page. Her parents were Christen Aschildsen and Maren Gunnusdatter, Mosbye.
Her first husband was Gunder Jørgensen, Mosbye. They were married June 16 1806, see right page, first record in 1806.

- Quite a job to make a search for this. Here is the 1910 census.

Doubtingly.
Alma Lovise Stray is buried under her maiden name at Kristiansand cemetery. She died 13 DEC 1973.
If she was married, she would have had her husbands lastname on the stone.

It appears that my grandfathers immediate family were orphaned when my grandfather was young. None of his brothers in Canada ever married and John's sister (Alma) probably never did either. My grandfather seems to be the only Jensen with family. I had hoped there would be family in Norway. His brothers who emigrated from Norway were half bothers and it seems John followed with no family left in Norway. It is Nanton, Alberta, Canada - a long trip from Montreal. My grandfather was a wonderful kind man whom everyone loved. A way from being orphaned. Thank you for all your help.
