Johannes Peterson Aarseth, born Mar 24 1839 in Sondfjord, Norway and died Dec 27 1917 in Chippewa County, Minnesota. He was using Johannes Peterson in USA before taking the Aarseth surname. He might have immigrated in 1881 to Montevideo, Minnesota. His father is listed as Peter Sundahl.
Johannes Peterson's first wife was Syneva Hoversdatter and might have married in 1866. They might have had seven children including Ole Peterson Aarseth (born Jun 30 1871) and Henry Peterson Aarseth (born 1873).
Johannes Peterson's second wife was Randi Johandatter Oddan, born about 1852 and died Oct 17 1920, died in Chippewa County, Minnesota. They married Mar 11 1888 in Chippewa County, Minnesota and he is listed on the marriage cert as a Peterson. Her parents might be John Bradendson and Ragnald Swirson.
I have some information on their descendants. I am looking for more information on these people and their ancestors. And the names of Johannes and Syneva's Peterson children. What happened to Syneva? I am not finding evidence that Peter Sundahl / John Bradendson / Ragnald Swirson ever coming to America. Michael Andrews, Milan/Watson, Minnesota |

The database at FamilySearch.org indicates that Johannes Pedersen married Synneve Andrea Haaversdr in July of 1867. The location was Ålhus parish of Jølster district, Sogn og Fjordane. Parish records for Ålhus/Jølster are available for years as early as ca. 1696 for your research.
The 1865 Norwegian census probably shows Synneve living on the Aarset farm in Jølster. http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=1431&kenr=008&bnr=0047&lnr=000
And this is probably Johannes still living on the Sandal farm there. http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=1431&kenr=006&bnr=0041&lnr=000

The Digitalarkivet web site has been adding scanned images of the original Norwegian parish church records for anyone with Internet access since November 2005.
The Digitalarkivet web site - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar An English option is available by clicking on that word from either the left hand column or the blue link bar along the bottom of the homepage. The scanned images are available from the homepage link "Skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Digitised parish records" [English version] which is listed along the left hand column and from the blue banner of links along the top section of the homepage. After you've clicked on that link and a new main page has presented on the screen be sure and read the instructions that are available from the Digitalarkivet for navigating the scanned records. The instructions are available in Bokmål (official Norwegian), Nyorsk (Norwegian), Davvisámegiella (Saami), and English. Recommended basic reading are the "Startsiden" [Norwegian version]/"Main page" [English version], "Brukerveiledning" [Norwegian version]/"User's guide" [English version] and "Om tjenesten" [Norwegian version]/"About this service" [English version].
Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na20.html

I believe Johannes Peterson's second wife Randi Johansdatter, Oddan is the one emigrated from Hemne, Sør Trøndelag in 1887, see #3. She had the son, #4 Johan Arnt, 7 years old who was born out of wedlock, see #16.
Randi Johansdatter was born Aug 4 1852, see #71. Her parents were Johan Brynjulfsen, Fossen and Ragnild Sivertsdatter. The parents and Randis siblings in 1865.
