Looking for descendants of Paul M Johnson, b. January 2nd 1862 in Skogn, Nord-Trøndelag, Norway. Paul emigrated in 1885 from Trondheim to Pittstown, Pennsylvania and sometime later married Angelica Still. Together they had a son called Carl, who was born in 1902 in Pennsylvania. I've found US Census Records for 1910 and 1920 on this family, but the URL's don't seem to want to function on this forum. The records are, however, available for free on familysearch.org

Paul was the brother of my great-great-grandfather John. Their parents were Johan Pedersen and Lina Jørgine Støring. Apparently Paul anglicized the patronym Johansen to Johnson after having arrived in the US. In my family we've kept a photograph of Paul and Angelica that was sent to Paul's sister Mette Oline Andresen Buran sometime during the late 19th/early 20th century.

My great-grandfather Harald Ragnar Sandberg seems to have been visited by one of the descendants of Paul. However, no one in my family took note of this person's name at the time. We know that all in all there were four brothers--Paul Marius, Carl Ove, Hans Peter and Anton--as well as one sister--Josephine Constance (married to Martinius Rud/Rood/Raad) , who all emigrated sometime during the late 19th century.

All the best,
Ragnar Sandberg

Hi Jan Peter. Nice to come in contact with family online. Peder Andresen owns the original. Do you know him?

Hi Ragnar,
I think I've found a living daughter of Karl! She's about 70, and lives in Venice, Florida. Maybe give her a call?

It looks like Karl had two daughters. Karl died in 1985, and his wife Kathryn Emma Steiner died in 1995.

Hi Jan Peter,
What great news! I'll be sure to give her a call. Hopefully, she'll be able to enlighten me as to what happened to Karl's siblings and where their descendants live on. If you don't mind me asking, how did you come upon this information? Thank you very much.

Ragnar

Hehe... it's a long story!
I found Paul M Johnson in a family-tree at ancestry.com, but I don't have a subscription there, so I couldn't see the details.

But I got help from a member here to do a lookup, and it said that one of the daughters was married to a Robert Mclauchlin, who died in Conway Arkansas. More search shows that he was related to a Barbara J Mclauchlin. They are of same age, and I think she would be his wife. anywho.com gave me the address...

It was the correct one! My contact have already called her, and verified that she's the daughter of Karl!

The other daughter of Karl is also alive, her name is Nancy.
Nancy's husband Lynn Jones does genelogy and would have more information.

Here is a picture of Nancy's daughter Allison. (from ancestry. com)

Wonderful stuff! But I'm a bit hesitant about all this. You see, my own family tree is on ancestry.com, and I haven't gotten any notifications whatsoever about a match for Paul M Johnson. Did the first daughter verify her father's kinship with Mette Oline and so on? Could you possibly give me a link to the aforementioned family tree on ancestry? Thanks!

I'm quite sure this is the correct family. Karls's parents are listed as Paul Marius Johnson & Angelica Still.

The reason you haven't got any match could be that the birthdate of Paul Marius is wrong... On the family tree he is listed as born 01 Feb 1862, while you have 02 Jan 1962. So Day and Month have been switched..

Go here and search for Paul Marius Johnson, born 1862. It will take you to the jones Family Tree, owned by Allison Jones, which is a granddaughter of Karl.

Barbara was very excited when she got the phonecall, and said she would love to receive a phonecall from a Norwegian relative. She was busy yesterday, so their conversation was short, but she wanted to continue the talk today...

Very interesting. Who is this contact of yours? I think I might try to call her for myself next weekend. I just visited my grandfather Kåre's sister, Sollaug, and she told me that an American cousin of her father Harald Ragnar came visiting twice after the War. I mentioned Karl, and she thinks it very well might have been him.

As to the date or birth, however trivial it may be, the Church records state that Paul was born on January 2nd 1862.
