What's your source for the Hjemdahl name? And their birthdates?
One Anne Bergitte Hjemdahl became a widow in Kristiansand, Norway in 1891... could she have emigrated to the US the next year with a daughter named Alvhilde?

Her husband:
Tønnes Johan Axelsen Hjemdahl
Birth Date: 1831
Death Date: 18 Mar 1891
Burial Date: 24 Mar 1891, Kristiansand, Vest-Agder, Norway

3 of their children;
1) Anna Beate Hjemdal, born 20 Dec 1877, dead 09 Mar 1883.
2) Stilborn Hjemdahl (Male), born 13 Oct 1884, dead 13 Oct 1884
3) Anna Beate Hjemdal, born 02 Dec 1886

Tønnes Johan Axelsen & Anne Bergitte Hjemdal
Marriage: 22 OCT 1872, Kristiansand, Vest-Agder, Norway

But some questions remains:
1) This Anna Bergitte is born 22-FEB-1853 in Kristiansand... not 1861. #105
2) Did she have a daughter named Alvhilde?
3) Did she emigrate?

Annie Anderson in Spink, Union, South Dakota (census-1900) married Edward Anderson about 1893 in Iowa, so her daughter Alfhild looks to be a child from a previous relationship.

From what I know is that Anne Ane Bergitte Hjemdahl came from Norway with her daughter Alfhild Hjemdahl and married Edward Anderson at Spink, Union county, South Dakota and had eleven children and she died 1906 and he married his stepdaugher Alfhild and had eleven children. I am not sure if the birth date for Anna is correct. I have two dates. One is July 1861 which is not the best source and another birth date of May 24, 1861 and died Dec. 31, 1906 and imm 1892 which comes from my church burial records which could be wrong. And Alfhild I have church burial records that say she was born Nov. 25, 1888 and died Sep. 28, 1981 and imm 1892. I just was not sure if the names are correct and who Anne was married to in Norway and what happened.

I am also interested in some information on Alfhild Hjemdahl Berg. Her grandparents are Ove Andreas Olson Berg born 1832 in Nes Bjugn, Norway & Kjersten Kristiansdtr Skanke born December 01, 1833 in Orland, Norway. Do you have any information on that family back in Norway. Annie Bergitte was a daughter to them.

I am going to try and answer your question, but something does not quite seem right in the locations listed earlier in this thread of Kristiansand and your Norwegian location of Ørland. These two areas are at opposite ends of Norway.

Probably the marriage of Ove and Kjersten. Record gives the fathers of the bride and groom

Ove Andreas Olsen
in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926
Name: Ove Andreas Olsen
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Birth Date: 1833
Marriage Date: 28 okt 1855 (28 Oct 1855)
Marriage Place: Ørland, Sør-Trøndelag, Norway
Father: Ole Nielsen
Spouse: Kirsten Skanke
FHL Film Number: 307040

Name: Kirsten Skanke
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Birth Date: 1832
Marriage Date: 28 okt 1855 (28 Oct 1855)
Marriage Place: Ørland, Sør-Trøndelag, Norway
Father: Christian Skanke
Spouse: Ove Andreas Olsen
FHL Film Number: 307040

Original record is number 35

#35

The family in the 1865 Census on Berg

1865

There is a Anne B born 1861 in the list of children.

A problem here is that the most of the church records for Bjgun were burned in 1924.

But the same family is found in the 1875 Census

I thought I would back up little and see if I am on the right track here before we go off and provide more information on the ancestors of those folks you asked about. This looks like a Anne O Berg emigrating in 1891. However no child is listed along with her,

Link

Now a Alfhild Berg age 11 did emgirate with the family of Ove O. Berg and his wife in 1892. She is listed as his daughter but your comment would indicate that thet is incorrect and the she is really his granddaughter?

Link

Now it is possible that this is the family that the Original Poster was asking about and the use of the Hjemdahl name mislead Jan Peter. I have not come across the Hjemdahl name in any of the records for the family from the Trondheim area.

So it looks like Alfhild was born out of wed lock on November 25, 1888. He mother was Anne Bergete Ovesdatter and her father was Soforende ? Sivert Andersen.

Well perhaps we are on the right track and the family that you are interested in in Norway is

Kirsten Olsen Næs (Schanche)
Gender: Female
Birth: December 01, 1833
Immediate Family:
Daughter of Christian Hansen Schancke and Kjerstin Andersdatter Grande
Wife of Ove Andreas Olsen Næs

I do not see a lot about Ove Andreas Olsen but the ancestors of Christian Hansen Schancke and his wife Kjerstin Andersdatter Grande are well explored in various online trees. I will give you several links for them. You need to try and find ones that have at least some sources so you can be somewhat assured that they are really accurate.

Geni.com

Hemneslekt.net

brynulf slekt

A word of warning, in many cases people try and connect a family into the noble (adel ) family Skanke, There usually are few reliable sources for such a connection and very little truth to the connection. A book on the Skanke adel family is Skanke ätten by Roger de Robelin that has both its supporters and its detractors. You need to make up your own mind on what to trust.

Anton notes the use of the Hjemdal name is misleading but apparently someone in the family thought it was true:

Name Adol Anderson
Event Type Birth
Event Date 21 Jan 1911
Event Place Union, South Dakota, United States
Gender Female
Father's Name Edd Anderson
Mother's Name Alfild Hjemdal
Citing this Record

"South Dakota, Department of Health, Index to Births 1843-1914 and Marriages 1950-2016," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QKDD-SLVZ : 11 February 2018), Alfild Hjemdal in entry for Adol Anderson, 21 Jan 1911; citing Birth, Union, South Dakota, United States, South Dakota Department of Health, Pierre.

And also these in the 100 year old births in South Dakota website:

Birth Information for ELLERD ANDERSON
(State File Number: 84546)
File Date: 08/31/1912
Sex: M
Birth Date: 08/28/1912

Father's Name: ED ANDERSON

Birth Information for LOYD ANDERSON
(State File Number: 109003)
File Date: 07/31/1914

File Date: 04/10/1917
Sex: F
Birth Date: 03/30/1917
County: UNION
Mother's Name: ALFHILD HJEMDAHL
Father's Name: ED ANDERSON

And for the mother's children with Ed Anderson a couple of delayed birth certificates:

Birth Information for ANNIE ANDERSON
(State File Number: 662809)
File Date: 09/01/1944
Sex: F
Birth Date: 08/05/1894

So Alfild assumed a surname.
