I'm having difficulty reading the 1823 Skånevik parish record for the birth/baptism of my ggg-grandmother, Synnove Olsdatter. I'm particularly interested in her father's given name. It is item #265 on page 51 (Hordaland fylke, Skånevik, Ministerialbok nr. A 3 (1815-1828), Fødte og døpte 1823, side 51):
#265 (this is a link to the jpg)
Thank you for any assistance!

His name is Ole Strat. Probably a cooper from Sweden, (72) in Stavanger in 1865 census |

Michele, it is a better idea to give the link to the 'permanent page link'. That give us the ability to zoom in and out to get a better view, carefully observe the source and be able to page backwards and forwards to better see handwriting samples of that writer.

Harald: thank you so much for the help and the information. Swedish, perhaps! No wonder I was struggling, ha.
Hopkins: yes, I read that the permanent page link is preferred, but when I tried using the permalink that the Digital Archives listed in my test message, it linked to a different page (1881 deaths), which was strange. I should have mentioned that in my original post. You're right, the (correct) permalink is much easier than the jpg! |

In the baptismal record #265 father is said to be "Swensk Bødker ugift Person Ole Strat". Synneves confirmation record is #19.

In the 1865 census from Stavanger, see Haralds link above; Ole Strat was "e" widower.

eibache, thank you for the link to Synneve's confirmation record. That is something I would not have tracked down for awhile!
Kåarto, I'm so glad to have that additional information. Thanks for helping me improve my Norwegian! |
