You have been of great assistance to me in the past. We have ascertained that my Ggrandfather, Hans Christian Ingval Hansen, b Eiker, Buskerud 4/14/1858. Parents Hans Hansen b abt 1828 and Jorgine Christofersdtr, b Eiker 4/1/1829. The parents were shoemaker Hans Hansen, Lysagereie and Jĝrgine Christoffersdatter, married Febr 27 1854.. Hans Hansen were from Formoe in Modum, 26 years old and the father was Hans Hansen. Jĝrgine was 24 years old, born on Skistad and the father was Christoffer Nilsen. I have found two different records for their marriage, one showing Hans (the senior) father's name as Hans Olsen, the other as Hans Hansen.
Now I have received 25 pages of historical information from Wisconsin which points to a marriage between Hans Peter Johnson (b 1816 to 1820) and Ingrid or Ingerud in Norway. Family lore says they were cousins, and I have court filed documents stating they raised my Ggrandfather after his parents died. Some items lead to the possibility that Ingrid, Inger, also stated Auger, was possibly a Hansen. I also found a Wisconsin marriage record for their daughter, Mary Andrea to Otto Elizor Berg showing her mother's name as Dunlou Johnson. Could she be Hans Hansen (the senior's) sister? Again Hans Hansen listed his name as Lysagereie and as Aker, now this woman uses Auger. Could this help us to find which Hans Hansen is really my roaming shoemaker GGgrandfather?

Lysaker is an area west of Oslo named after farm Lysager and a farm in Nedre Eiker at a population centre called Krokstadelva. Lysagereie was a subfarm under farm Lysaker, but who?.
Auger is perhaps a wrongspelling for Eiker.

Yes, I think that is probably him too, that they changed the name to Johnson entering the U.S. Do you think there's any way of figuring out if this Inger Hansdatter is the sister of Hans Hansen the shoemaker? The commonality of her father being Hans Olsen and one of the marriage records for Hans and Jorginne showing his father as Hans Olsen is leading me in that direction. Oh, these Norwegian naming practices are driving my crazy! LOL. |

Thank you so much. That is correct. I have it in family records but have not been able to find a written record in the US, as they entered through Canada and into Wisconsin before immigration records were being kept in either place. Jorginne died on the ship, and they were accompanied by Jorgine's brother, Andrew Christoffersen Holst. |

Oh, my gosh. Thank you so much. I have been unraveling this mystery for 30 years. Maybe this means there are really other Hansen relatives, and that perhaps there are descendants somewhere. When my GGrandfather died in 1914, that was the end of our family memories. He died suddenly of Meningitis, and there were only a few family rumors left behind. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Do you think there were more brothers and sisters in this family? |

You are welcome. Probably more siblings.
Soon midnight in Norway, time to rest.
Norewegian naming practises can be a challenge, when you get used to its a wonderful tool in genealogy.
Hans son became Hansen and Hans daughter - Hansdatter (Hansdaughter)
Ole´s son became Olsen and Ole´s daughter - Olsdatter. This practice lasting for more than 1000 years ended about 1900.
A short version of the naming practices; Firts- born son was named after his fathers father, first-born daughter after her fathers mother. 2. born son after his mothers father, etc.
As always; no rules without exeptions, espesially if a widower or widow married again.
Iceland still practice this naming practices.

View farm Formodalen, last farm at the end of the blind road "Formoveien" Formo road here Linda. Write "Formodalen Modum" and click "Sĝk"
Emigration 1862 from Lysager-eie, Eiker, the nearest port was Drammen, less than 10 miles. Bark Askur left Drammen April 15 and arrived Quebeck June 21, some info regarding the 1862 journery here.

When Hans Peter Johansen and Inger Hansdatter married in Heggen church 1844 both lived on Kongshaugene. Kongshaugen means Royal hill, and was a part of Buskerud manor owned by the king until 1668, it was bought by the Collett family 1762 so Peter and Inger probably worked for this family. By "Kongsfoss" Royal waterall in this photo from ab. 1870 is Kongssagen (Royal sawmill) with the Kongshaugene farms in the background.
