Thank you both so much for your help. I think it's time for me to plan a trip to Norway to see where my family came from. I do have one observation with all of the information you've passed on. I don't have a birth date on Maria Pedersdatter or Hans Olsen, but I did notice the wide timespan between her first-born, Ole in 1805, and my GGgrandfather, Hans, born 12/3/1827. My thought is, if they were farmers having more children was probably helpful in running a farm, but was it common to have children so late in life? I noticed, too, that on the Christoffersen side of the family, that they also had children late in life. |

The 1801 census for Modum show 3 unmarried Mari Pedersdatter. If having children late in life also was true for her mother she could be the one from Lofthuus.

Hi, Hans Olsen on Formoe 1801, parents, farming and wagoner Ole Hansen 52 and Tolline Torgersdatter 58, two daughterrs Marthe and Anne.
Tolline ab 1743 Ole ab1743 Hans ab. 1777
Starts with the mother. Most likely Tolline Torgersdatter born August 26. 1743 on Jaer-eie (a sub farm under Jaer), bap. Sept. 1., father Torger Torgersen Jaer-eie.............Tolline .......26 Aug: see #65
The date in last column Oct. 27 i Nykirke is probably when the mother was introdused to the church-congregation after the child birth in a ceremony where she was met outside in "Vċpenhuset" Weaponhouse /Church porch where the men´s weapons were kept and lead into the church by the priest.
Note, farmer Hellik Grette 65 above, recieve retirement from Blaafarvevĉrket, a famous tourist attraction on Modum, read more here

Thanks again for your help. I use Ancestry.com, and in searching there, I'm disappointed that I can't seem to find other family members that have documented our geneology. Would my Norwegian relatives possibly use a different system for documentation? It would be nice to see what has happened to the generations left in Norway. |

Hi. The information regarding the farms and those who lived there in the past and today exist in these "Bygdebok´s" from Modum, 7 volumes by Roar Tank and Arnt Ruud has information about those who lived there through the ages.
Volume 5 by Arnt Ruud, Formo starts on page 28, Jar/Jaer (Tolline Torgersdatter b. 1743) starts on page 37, see here

Hans Olsen Formoes father was Ole, not sure but most liklely it was Ole Olsen Formoe, farmer on Formoe in 1765, see here.
Ekstraskatten (Extra-tax) 1765 was decided collected by the king of Denmark-Norway when war against Russia and northern Germany (Holstein district) threatened in 1762.
The tax was one Daler per person older than 12 years living on the farm, rich or poor, registered in the cencus.
The Extra-tax was very upopular among the farmers and after an uprising against the authorities in 1765 the tax was redused to 2 Daler a farm and was discontinued in Norway 1672, in Denmark this Tax lasted until 1812.
