I am trying to find out further information about Arne Lorents Andreas LORENTSEN born 06 Oct 1862 Bergen, Hordaland, Norway. I have also found his name as Arne Lorents Andreas Lorents Mikalsen.

His parents were Lorents Mikal Arnesen and Gjertrud Andrea Andersen.

I believe that Arne Lorents Andreas LORENTSEN may have changed his name on his way to Australia be the same person that arrived in Australia around 1890 as Andrew Anderson. He then lived in Bairnsdale, Victoria, Australia. However I am having difficulty proving this.

I donot know how he arrived in Australia although in his diaries he makes reference to the SS Norge so may have come via the UK.

Any info anyone is able to provide regarding Arne Lorents Andreas LORENTSEN emigrating from Norway would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou

Ian

His parents Lornts Mekael Arnesen and Jertine Andrea Andersdatter and two sisters Anne (4) and Johanne (2) in 1865. They were quakers.

If he had been born in 1862 he should have been in the census 4 years old - but it could be that Anne is misspelling for Arne.

The parents Lorents Michael Arnesen, Solheim and Giertine Andrea Andersen, were married Dec 22 1861, see #8.

Anne in the 1865 census was a misspelling, see #29 - the baptismal record for Arne Lorents Andreas Lorentsen.

Thank you both very much for this information. In his diaries he refers to a sister living in the USA (in the early 1900s) who he calls Marie.but there are no other details. I will investigate further to try to establish if she is in fact Johanne.

I have tried to find further information about Johanne but I am not able to establish if she may be "Marie" and confirm that Arne Lorents Andreas LORENTSEN is Andrew Anderson. Is there any way of searching people emigrating from Norway in say 1888 to 1890? Thank you

I have come to the conclusion that Arne Lorents Andreas LORENTSEN is not the same person as my great grandfather Andrew Anderson. This information originally came from another geneology forum. I have located Andrew Anderson's marriage certificate which lists his parents as Andrew Anderson and Maria Tidblad. I believe his date of birth 06 October 1862 is correct.
Andrew Anderson wrote diaries for many years in which he refers to his sister Marie, her husband Andreas and Marie's daughters Anna and Ryborg??. Marie emigrated to the USA. This is all in the period 1890-1920. I still have not got any further finding the family in Norway but will keep looking. Thank you to those who assisted with my query.

I'm quite sure this is your Andreas.
It would be nice to locate his sister Marie.

Do you have any additional info about her or her family?
Last name of her husband?
Any approx. y.o.b. for the family members?
Where in the US did they live?
If possible, it would be nice if you could scan the page where you read "Ryborg", and post it here, to verify her name.

Small correction:
Andreas recorded as born Oct 6 1862, baptized at home, confirmed in church April 2 1863. (See #121.)
The mother said to be married to sailor Anders Olsen, their marriage was June 7 1858, see #5, she was born in Gothenburg, Sweden 1828 and the full name is Marie Beathe Nicolaisdotter Tidblad.

Thank you so much Jan Peter!! Yes I think this is the one. Little is known about his sister Marie.
From his diaries .
He wrote to Andreas Marie's husband in Norway in 1893
Marie was still in Norway in 1898.
In 1899 he mentions Anna "Marie's girl"

There are diaries missing from there until 1916 when Marie is in Minnesota USA (I believe it was Thief River Falls Minnesota). He then mentions writing to "Maries daughter in Norway Ryborg". This is also 1916.

I know this is not much to work with but you have already helped so much.
Thank you again
Ian

Hi,

You mentioned Thief River Falls which is in Pennington County, Minnesota. The historical societyof Pennington county has a couple of top-notch databases indexing burials in Pennington cemeterie and newspaper obituaries. You may want to look.

Marie Ronne arrived Boston, Mass on 10-Aug-1905. I think she might be indexed as "Arie O Romse"
Someone with a subscription at ancestry.com should check the original manifest for her final destination. I wonder who paid for her ticket? A daughter Anna?
