Svend Iversen left Oslo on ship Island
He left as Svend J (I) Lindtvedt 19, dest Lamberton, in company with three persons from Nore; Thore Nielsen 23 and Thore T. Lindtvedt 39 and wife Brynild Nilsdatter Lindtvedt 39, see here
Also see the em. record from Nore 1883, right page persons #1-4

Not much info on Svend Iversen 1862 and his family, there are ab. 10 Bygdebooks from Nore, some of the oldest has no farm register. I looks like they moved from farm to farm as farmhands. His parents Iver Svendsen and Brynild Halvorsdatter settled down on a sub farm under Skarpaasen ab. 1861, name of the subfarm was Bergan. After Iver and his son Halvor died 1864 Brynild Halvorsdatter and Svend 1862 moved to Mellom (Central) Eide, see Anton´s posting from the 1865 cenus on page two where Brynild was employeed as servant.
I am still not able to find out what happened to Brynild, she was born on a sub farm under Rustand (Rustandeiet), Svend Iversen emigrated from Rustandeiet 1883.
Guess you know; Lisa Stendalen was born in the US.
Kåre
Yes, Lisa was born in Wisconsin, the only daughter to be born in the US of Ole Olsen Stendalan
I have the location I think of that subfarm Mellom, Bergan HERE
I am pretty sure we have the right people here. Is he thinking that Lisa and Svend married at the time of immigration? I doubt it.
Can someone show me where Skarpaasen is located on the map? I am using that map you guys use but in the search, It does not list Skarpaasen.
Haven't heard back from Roar Hansen yet but hopefully we will hear from him again in a few days. I replied to his email to try and explain things from what we researched here. Hopefully we will see.

Skarpaasen = Skarpåsen.
The farm Mellom, Bergan you have found with the map is in Sigdal, I believe the subfarm Bergan should be in Nore/Uvdal, but I doubt that it is shown on the map.

Bergan under Skarpaasen located to the small village Øygardsgrend in the hilside high above Nore is probably abandoned. Skarpaasen means Sharp ridge.
Bergan is mentioned here, not sure in what context, it´s called Nore 1, it might be in volume 1 in Nore and Uvdal Bygdebook farm nr 38 on pages 325, 355-59 and 233.
Add. info. A short walk from Øygardsgrend is lake Tunhovdfjorden, one of Norway´s best lakes for trout fishing.

Thanks Kåarto
If I ever go to Norway and visit this farm, I'll be sure to try the fishing. love fishing.
Got one more question and need some advice on- I am also trying to research other ancestor. He was born in Germany and apparently emigrated to Denmark were he served 3 years as a private in the danish army. what kind of resources could i use to find this guys past. i am hoping to find if he was in any battles with his time in the danish army. He eventually immigrated to the US aboard the Luistiana 1 year before it was sank by a German U-boat killing nearly 1,200 passengers and crew. After that he entered into WWI.
But I am looking where I should start. Any recommendations?

Hi,
Here is a searchable database of Danish migrants:
http://www.emiarch.dk/search.php3?l=en
Germany and Denmark had an area of contention and traded the territory back and forth between them, sometimes not in a friendly way. Schleswig-Holstein.

When you need to learn about a new area and what is available to you also check at Cyndi's List (cyndislist.com) and LDS FamilySearch (familysearch.org) websites.
For example at Cyndi's List you can learn about Danish web links available by looking under their category listings that start with the letter D. At FamilySearch you would click on the tab labeled "Learn" and you could use their search wiki to find articles for the keyword that you enter into it.

Hi,
Try it without the ejet (or eiet, eie) suffix. What that means is the "husmanns place" under Rustand.

I believe Raustå is what you should look for, it is in Nore. Another possibility is Rustaden, that one is in Flesberg, see these places and Skarpåsen.

Dep. port was Oslo on ship Angelo, dest New York, see here She traveled with Gullik Olsen Hvaalseiet age 22, he is nr 7 in the em. record above.
