Anton Markussen (born Grimstad, 1885) was married in Newport, South Wales in September 1910 to Anna Emilie Arnesen (born Newport,1886), daughter of my great grandfather Axel Arnesen, (born Fredrikshald, 1854). I can find no subsequent record of Anton & Anna in UK, and believe they may have returned to Norway.

I would welcome help in tracing them and any descendants in Norway

Anton and Emilie lived in Grimstad 1910 with his father and widower Matias Markussen and two brothers, Markus and Kristen, see here

Anton was a shipmaster.

David.
Shipmaster Anton Markussen is mentioned in this familytree, 4. from top.
The owner Lars Jĝrgensen, see bottom page, has probably information to share with you.

God luck

I was in contact with Lars but no further info forthcoming. Th dates of deaths in Grimstad from the Norwegian graves register confirm the dates given by Kare. I have been unable to trace any children of Anton and Anne Emilie, whether searching Markussen or Antonsen. Can anyone help with this please.

Hi David,
Did you find any of the children you were looking for?
If not, I've come across one here: Muriel
I'll be looking a bit more, since Anton is a relative of my wife.

Kyrre, if Muriel is the daughter of Anna Emilie, she would be my mother's cousin. I see she was born in 1921 - is she still alive ??? My mother is 90 and still alive and living in UK - she would be thrilled to know she has a cousin she never knew about

Unfortunately it looks like she has passed away, some time in June 2006. The Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten has an online archive where you can find amongst other things old obituaries. I don't have a subscription to that, so I can't read the whole thing, but it was listed on the 29th of June 2006.
I did find her husband in the online phone book (1881.no), so he should be alive, and their son Ben Inge Aarnĉs is on Facebook, so if you use that, you can probably get in contact with him there.
