Hello, I am trying to find date of birth and death for 3 children of Thomas Chalmer.
Thomas Boteler Chalmer b1843 d 1887 emigrated to Oslo from England around 1865. In 1867 he married Augusta Olava Ohlsen in Oslo. I have them on 1875 census with son Thomas jnr b 1871 and daughter Edith b 1875. Their daughter Margaret b 1868 is at her uncles house. 1879 son Vernon was born. They also had 3 other children: Augusta, Florence and Sidney Herbert and would like to have birth /death dates for them if poss and a death date for their mother Augusta, we think after 1916.

I can not find them on 1900 census. In 1901 find mother Augusta living with her daughter Margaret. Also found Thomas jnr with his wife in 1901. Thomas senior was a merchant and also had something to do with the church in Norway.

Thanks
Shirley

Would this not be Augusta living with Hauff in 1900 Norwegian Census. She is listed as Augusta O Cholmer. Also listed is a son ? Edmund b 1885 not named above.

Hi Shirley,

Well the "new" child Edmund Boteler Christian Chalmer was confirmed in Drøbak on 30 Sept 1900. His birthdate is given as:
8 July 1885, baptism in Oslo as 11 Oct 1885, vaccination date as 2 July 1888.

In Vincent's WWI draft registration signed on 12 Sept 1918, filed at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, his mother Mrs. Augusta Chalmer is listed as his nearest living relative. So perhaps her deadline will be after 1918.

Vincent filed his declaration of intention 27 Sept 1904 in the Western District of Pennsylvania. Ancestry has his birthplace incorrectly listed in their index as Italy but the actual record shows Norway.

Margarethe Chelmer m. Thorwald Westy Hauff in Drøbak on 12 Aug 1893. Her birthplace is given as Oslo. Although the record does not identify him as a widower or divorced person, I think he had a largish family with a first spouse, some of whom came to America settling first in Wisconsin and later Washington State.

There is a Bjørn Hauff leaving from Drøbak the same day as Vincent with Wisconsin as his destination. This Bjørn later ends up in Washington State and marries there and and petitions to become a US citizen there. In that petition he identifies the ship he arrived on in 1902 as Oceanic and that he filed his declaration of intention on 9 May 1904 at Portage County, Wisconsin. Bjørn also lives with a Hauff family in 1910 and is identified as a brother.

Hilsen,
