Hey gang-

Got a new one for us. According to everyone elses family tree, it does not make sense. Here's what I got.

Erek Erickson
Born April 30, 1830 in Hedmark, Norway.

Not sure exactly what year he emigrated to Wisconsin, USA but he married Marthe Gjodingsdatter born June 1833 in Norway (No location given in Norway). It is believed they married in 1863.

I tried searching for them but could not find them.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Lucas

Not much info, there is however an Erik Eriksen about the right age in Grue, Hedmark here:

http://www.digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=10&filnamn=f60423&gardpostnr=604&merk=604#ovre

He's aged 33, lodger and his occupation is tailor.

His landlord Peder could very well be his brother!

Have a look!

Jan, (Mr.) Norway

The name Gjodningsdatter confuse me, must be Amercanized, but from what?

Obs!!!
Did Erik Eriksen have a namesake b. 1830 in Grue ?
Erik Eriksen born April 30. 1830, parents Erik Olsen and Eli Paulsdatter.
There is a big But, this Erik married Anne Danielsdatter April 4. 1860, em. to America, dest. La Crosse, with wife and 4 children in1868.

I assume that this is the same family in the 1880 US Census. The daughter Elena is listed here as being born in Wisconsin in 1864, casting some doubt on the 1866 immigration date from the 1900 Census. Do you know where the first child was born.

If this is the same family from 1870 US Census, and it appears as if it is, it shows a son Carl born in 1859 in Wisconsin. Indicating that they came to the US much earlier than other information and were perhaps married before 1860.

Name: Erick Erickson
Birth Year: abt 1831
Age in 1870: 39
Birthplace: Norway
Home in 1870: Greenfield, La Crosse, Wisconsin
Race: White

Just a thought.
Perhaps Gjoding was Gjøding.
Gjøding was name of the rectory in Hurdal municipality, Akershus County.
There were 10 subfarms, Gjødingeie, under Gjøding.

Perhaps Marthe Gjøding(datter)was born there?

A shot in the dark;
I found a Marthe Christiansdatter (Olsen) born in Hurdal June 16. 1833 on Bamrudeie to Christian Olsen and Anne Davidsdatter.

I have had the same thought about Gjodingsdatter. Perhaps it was Gjødingsæter?
One candidate: Maria Gulbrandsdatter, born Sept 1832..
Confirmation 1847. The family left the parish 1855, but Maria was not with them.

- or Marthe Olea Christansdatter, leaving the parish 1857, born Jan 1833
