Hi,
Encyclopedia of Genealogy online has this meaning:
"Eodem From the Latin, eodem means "at the same" (place or time), used like "ditto" or "Do" in lists and registers. "

The farm Hestekleifs (Hesteklev) means horse pack, so the "road" must have been steep. The date is Mai 7.
The parish-borders changed through the centuries, Hesteklev is mentioned near the bottom under Ċmli on this page

Thank you all for the help. Yes the road to Hestkleiv is fairly steep. There is nothing left of the farm but ruins of a few old buildings. It is just up a dirt road from Nedre Skjeggedal and across that dirt road from Hĝgeli. We had a outdoor lunch there in the summer of 2008. |

It must have been fantastic to walk on your forefathers land even only ruins are left. There are tens of thousands of abandoned farm like Hestkleiv in Norway.
Off the record. The main reason for these small farm were the vaccination of children that started in the 1790s and in two generations the population doubled, the land was overpopulated because the numbers of farm not increased in the same tempo.
Only the strongest of the strongest were able to survive on farms like Hestkleiv. In the 1830s the name America where the land was free appeared even the first few Norwegian settlers came to USA and Breukelen (Brooklyn) in the late 1600s.

Hi Kċre,
You have happened on the debate that my mother and I used to have:
Did the best (bravest, smartest, toughest) stay in Norway? or Did the best (bravest, smartest, toughest) come to America?

Hi Jackie. I liked that comparison your mother came with, and both are true.
