Was she ever married and did she have any children?

You probably can assume that Margaret Bye married a Mr. Morse however I cannot find any record of the marriage or of children. Does not mean that she did not have children, just means the information is not easily found.

Unfortunately Alfred Engeland is not a good candidate, I found him in the Emigrantar frå Kristiania 1867-1927 tillegg.

Based on the 1900 US Census I would say his name was Westre and his daughter is named Eunice.

Name Age
Jacob Westre 54
Bertha Westre 35
Eunice Westre 8

Here is the obituary for Jacob Westre (1846 to 1933). It gives some detail about his daughter who became Junis Tokheim. It also mentions a nephew Ben Thorsen and three grandchildren although it does not name them.

Jens you may be able to obtain more information through the use of this book, "The History of Story County" The page that the link gets you to is a search page enter only the last name such as Westre or Egland and you will be able to access a considerable amount of information. A little on Westre a lot on Egland.

Very promising. I see that there is another Egeland travelling with him. Do you know who that his and what her name might be. Inarline is what is put down by the transcriber but could it be something close to that.

Name: Inarline Egeland
Arrival Date: 16 Mar 1895
Birth Year: abt 1875
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Norwegian
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Lucania

Jens, what do you make of this record. It appears as if Enevald Egeland travelled to America in 1889 but there is a second record for a Enevald Egeland where the birth year is given as 1895. I wonder if that is a mistake and what is meant is a travel year. Thus Enevald Egeland travelled to America twice in 1889 and again in 1895.

Here is another interesting find. The name clearly is Envevald on the manifest. He and his travelling companion have lines drawn through their names possiblily meaning that they did not travel on this ship. The companions name is Martine age 20. Both are going to Ames Iowa and to visit her sister A Anderson. Evevald also states that he had been in the US before in 1894 in Ames Iowa.

Name: Emerald Egeland
Arrival Date: 20 Mar 1895
Age: 26
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1869
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England
Ship Name: Catalonia
Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts
Last Residence: Stavanger

Hi,

It would have been difficult for one couple to be on both the Lucania landing in New York and the Catalonia at Boston landing in March 1895!

In the record in the ellisisland database they have the last name spelled with a j instead of a g...

I think this one could be correct, because Anne Marie Egeland married Charles Anderson and Martine must be Annes younger sister,I am gonna check my bygdebok for confirmation on that.
