Would be fine to know where the birth date for Sigrid, Dec 12 1855, comes from.

I assume you don´t have the letters Æ-Ø-Å. They left Åmot for Øystre Slidre within 1876 where Johan was confirmated June 11. living on farm Vindingstad

Hi. I have a Martin Kristensen born 1822 leaving Åmot for Øystre Slidre 1870, recorded 1872, see right page #2
"Hmd. Huusmand" Cottager/Leaseholder Martinus Kristensen born 1822 died of pneumonia in Vindingstad June 5. 1885, #25
Johan Martinussen was from Vindingstad-eie, a sub farm under Vindingstad, when he married Sigrid Knudsdatter Jan. 29. 1880 in Rogne church His father was "Inderst" related to the owner of Vindingstad when John was confirmated 1876.

Sigri Knudsdatter, 12 years old, is a "lægdslem" in the 1865 census. This is most likely the Sigrid Knudsdatter born Dec 4 1854 whose parents were Knud Jørgensen and Marit Olsdatter at Præsterud. The mother is a widow after her 2nd marriage, see 1865 census, the father, Knud Jørgensen, had died in 1859, see #7.

- Johans sister Anne is recorded as moving in at Slidre Nov 5 1875 #4 where it says she moved from Aamot Oct 27 1875, see #51.

Then it´s Anne Martinusdatter as a welfare recipient on Ilsaas Nordre in 1865
Johan Martinusen as a welfare recipent on Baastadløkken in 1865
The reason was that the mother Andrea died age 40 on Malmbekken July 19. 1865, see #22

Hi. Good find Jackie, and the record for when Martinus was born when he left Åmot 1870 is Mai. 12. 1822, which was his christening. day.
The meaning of Malmbækken, todays Malmbekken. Malm in this meaning is Bog iron and Bækken means stream or a small creec. Malmbekken is located by a creek that come from a bog-pond.

Is there any reason why the family would have used the last name Forstad. Here is an arrival for a Joh J Forstad. Arrival date fits well with Johan leaving Norway. Age fits well as does his destination of Minnesota. Also the two names next to Johan are Ing. Frantsen age 27 and Ands. Frantsen age 17 both going to Illinois and both listed in the Emigrnater frå Kristiania posted above.
Philadelphia Passenger Lists, 1800-1945 Philadelphia Passenger Lists, 1800-1945 Name: Joh J Forstad Arrival Date: 24 Jun 1889 Age: 28 Years Estimated Birth Year: abt 1861 Gender: Male Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Ship Name: Ohio Port of Arrival: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Microfilm Roll Number: T840_12

Hi,
The answer to Jørstad vs Forstad could also be found in the original handwritten records. Capitals F and J could easily be confused in the eye of the transcriber...
