Hi, can anyone perhaps provide information about my late grandfather, Charles Nicolai Andersen, who apparently emigrated from Oslo Norway to South Africa sometime between 1878 and 1932. He date of birth was 10 February 1878. He died in the town of Mossel Bay on 19 March 1932. I'd like some background info and I'd like to know who his parents and grandparents were and what they did for a living. Many thank,s Mike |

Hi,
At the Norwegian digitalarkivet, there are 3 databases of migrants leaving from Oslo (Kristiania--the old name of Oslo) with dates of 1867-1930. If you are sure he left through Oslo you could check for him there.
Charles would be a fairly rare name for a Norwegian. Karl or Carl might be more likely.
I'm not sure where Mossel Bay is (in South Africa?) in relation to Durban but there are several databases of pastoral acts from St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Durban. You could look for him there. Hope this link works...

You could also check for him in the Norway Baptisms database at www.familysearch.org. He might turn up, which could make looking for him in the parish registers at the Norwegian digital achive a bit easier. Just in case he's not in that database doesnot mean that he's not in the parish registers.
Good Luck
