More info would be beneficial, example: when did they emigrate (Mari and Anne were in Skjåk 1875 - John was not there).

If we search Ancestry.com for Jon Anders* born 1853 +/- 2 we find very few people, however if we change the spelling to John we get over three hundred men to sort through. Mari and Anna also would be very common names and so we have a problem determing which of the many candidates is the one we are looking for.
Thus we need some other bit of evidence to use. Do you know if they had family or friends who had already emmigrated to America and who they may have been going to meet. What were their names and where might they have lived. Would they have been travelling with others from the same area. What are the possible years they might have left. Did Anna and Mari travel together? Can you provide any further information.
It is not an easy search or you would have found them already. |

What was Erik P Skamser's destination when he arrived New York on The Celtic, on June 1st, 1902? Washburn, Wisconsin?
Colomn 16 reads "bro T.O. Traastad, Viroqua, Vernon, Wis", but I believe that is #2's destination (Thore Johannesen (19) also from Skjåk). Or did he have a brother in the US?
Thor O. Traastad in Harmony town, Vernon, Wisconsin is born sept. 1847.

Searching the archives for emigrants, I came across this Marie Andersdatter age 16 going to Eau Claire. I noticed by clicking on the hammer that you had highlighted this person.

I can find an M Andersen arriving in New York. Listed as a male which is probably wrong. Other passengers on the same ship are Ragnil Skansen and E P Skansen so this is probably the correct person. However as in the emigration from Norway record she is listed as 16 years old not the 27 that your Mari would be at this time.
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 Name: M Andersen Arrival Date: 25 May 1884 Birth Year: abt 1868 Age: 16 Gender: Male Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Norwegian Place of Origin: Norway Port of departure: London, England Destination: New York Port of arrival: New York Port Arrival State: New York Port Arrival Country: United States Ship Name: Assyrian Monarch

Looking at the 1900 US Census for Eau Claire and Chippewa Counties ie the Eau Claire area and using Mar* born 1857 emmigrated 1884 as the search keys does not turn up very many people, however it does turn up this lady. Note birth March 1857, immigrated 1884 and married after arrival in US ie 1887. Might be worth a longer look. A word of caution the 1910 Census gives immigration as 1885 and 1920 census gives 1888 as an immigration year.
Short memory, I also found this same family in the earlier search for this family.
1900 United States Census Home in 1900: Eau Claire Ward 7, Eau Claire, Wisconsin [Eau Claire] Race: White Gender: Female Immigration Year: 1884 Relation to Head of House: Wife Marital Status: Married Spouse's Name: Lewie Steenberg Marriage Year: 1887 Years Married: 13 Father's Birthplace: Norway Mother's Birthplace: Norway Household Members: Name Age Lewie Steenberg 46 Martha Steenberg 43 Mable L Steenberg 12 Hattie S Steenberg 4

I think this eliminates the family above. This Wisconsin birth record shows the wife Martha to have the maiden name of Christinson.
Wisconsin, Births and Christenings Index, 1826-1908 Wisconsin, Births and Christenings Index, 1826-1908 Name: Hattie Steinburg Birth Date: 17 Apr 1896 Birth Place: Eau Claire, Eau Claire, Wisconsin Gender: Female Race: White Father's Name: Louis Steinburg Father's Birth Place: Norway Mother's Name: Martha Christinson Mother's Birth Place: Norway

If the above emigration record is correct than this is likely her arrival into New York on the Germanic. She is using the name Ane A Hovenden. I found her by finding Emma Olsjon and her family of two children. (listed under the name Emma Olsen along with Julia 6 and Oluf 3) I also found the Lao famly of Lars and Sigrid and four children (listed under Loo). Thus I have some confidence that Anne Anderson is listed under the name Ane A Hovenden, since looking through the manifest did not turn up any better candidates.
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 Name: Ane A Hovenden Arrival Date: 6 Jul 1885 Birth Year: abt 1865 Age: 20 Gender: Female Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Swedish Place of Origin: Sweden Port of Departure: Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland Destination: United States of America Port of Arrival: New York Port Arrival State: New York Port Arrival Country: United States Ship Name: Germanic
Unfortunately there does not seem to be any other useful information such as destination or people to visit on the manifest. The manifest is very difficult to read and done very poorly so I would discount the Swedish identifiacation Also the birth year is off slightly, the manifest lists ages and her age is listed as 20 which matches the Emigration Record above. Also the person above her is Marie Oleson age 23 (probably Maria Olsen from the Emigration Record).
