I wonder if the source used by the owner of the Ancestry Family Tree listed as "Oslo Church Records Birth & Baptism 1876-1906 Birth, Baptism, child, parents, sponsor" is not the same source that Jackie referenced above "And here are the fødte of the 1876-1906 Oslo Lutheran Church as a searchable database online at digitalarkivet:". The date of 1811 must be 1881 as it is with a group of 1881 dates.
Here from that data group is the marriage of Harold. 4 20/Sept/1811 Harold Hansen Blinsmon Moody Co. 36 Ingeborg Halvorsdatter Blinsmon Moody Co. 32 Ole C Gunwald, fra Blinsmon Charly Johnson, fra Blinsmon Here is the first son with his second wife 63 9 Juli 1881 20 Sept 188 Martinua Harold Hansen Ingeborg Halvorsdatter Moody Co. There is a Bethania Lutheran Church Cemetary, Moody County, listing of graves in the Bethania Cemetary that was conducted by the WPA in 1941. On this listing is H. H. Hanson with a date of death 1891. It also reflects the age at death as 45. If this is fact then Harold's birth year would be 1846 and not 1844. |

Hi Dick,
If these churches were American Lutheran churches (Bethania and Oslo), their records may have been microfilmed in the 1970s. The American Lutheran church was the survivor of the old Norwegian Lutheran synod. The Evangelical Lutheran Church is the current survivor of the American Lutheran church. The ELCA archive loans the microfilm for a fee and postage costs, usually about $20 for a one month rental. Chances are likely that if the 2 churches were geographically close, they may be on one film. There must be a library in Sioux Falls that has a microfilm reader and printer. Joel Thoreson is the archivist, I may have his email address if you want to pursue.
I think it would be in your interest to get the films if available. First of all to get all the facts possible and get them straight since there appears to be a lot of variability among the transcribed records. Also to check out Ole Hanson, the son's confirmation record. Sometimes the pastors would record where the confirmands were baptized and when as part of the record of the confirmation. Then you may have a place in Iowa to look for records on him as well.
It has been mentioned to get an obituary for Harold and even though his deathdate is relatively early, it's likely that the State Historical Society of South Dakota will have the newspapers if available on microfilm.
Another possibility is that since he was a landowner, there may be estate record for him in the Moody county courthouse. Since he was survived by Ingeborg and 3 children it's unlikely to deal much with other relatives of his unless during the course of settling his estate an inheritance from his relatives should come in, there might be some documentation to that in the estate record.
