Hello hoping for some assistance in locating records relating to Frederick Fernandoz who arrived in Australia in 1862.

I can find records of his arrival from Otago to NSW in 1863 as a crew member - but not sure how he arrived to NZ.

Stories say that he did jump ship and took the papers - hence the odd name. We think that his original name was Frederick Bernhard fredrikson, or Ferdinand Bernhard Sorenson from Troms Norway.

Born 7 Oct 1839. He is my great great grandfather.

Many thanks! Linda

The baptismal record for Ferdinand Bernhard Sørensen is #93.

His parents were carpenter Søren Fredriksen and Jochamine B Tromsøe.
His confirmation record is #5.

The marriage record for his parents is #14.
Søren Fredriksen, 27 years from Sandvigen, and Sophie Jachomine Bentsdatter, 26 years from Holmesletten, were married Sept 5 1839.

Sørens father was Fredrik Sachariasen and Sophies father was Bent Jacobsen.

It looks like the father remarried, see 1865 census.

If he jumped ship, finding when and how he left Norway will be a challenging task - if at all possible.
