I am looking for Marie Syversen, who was born in Vestre Slidre, Valdres, in 1877. She married a Severin Gustavsen in 1907 in Grand Forks, and they lived in 710, 710, Cottonwood Street

I had "lost" the page that jkmarler has found again for me - I didn't manage to get it up, so thank you. I need that page now: I will soon be going to the US to find physically where Marie and Severin lived - therefore I need to print out the previous answers.

Anyway, it's the couple in 1910 that is the correct one. Did they live at the same address in 1920? And would it be possible to find out if Severin had any brothers or sisters living in North Dakota? Because all of Marie's family stayed behind in Norway - she was the only one to emigrate.

Still living at 710 Cottonwood Street, Grand Forks, ND in the 1930 US Census.

1930 United States Federal Census
Name: Sevenia Gurtafra
[Severin Gurtafra]
Gender: Male
Birth Year: abt 1863
Birthplace: Sweden
Race: White
Home in 1930: Grand Forks, Grand Forks, North Dakota
Marital Status: Married
Immigration Year: 1881
Relation to Head of House: Head
Spouse's Name: Mary Gurtafra
Father's Birthplace: Sweden
Mother's Birthplace: Sweden
Household Members:
Name Age

The transcriber did not do a very good job here, looking at the original census form, it is clearly Severin Gustafson.

From the Tri-State Telephone & Telegraph Company Grand Forks / East Grand Forks phone directory for Dec 1913, there is an entry:
Gustafson, S, res 710 Cottonwood st 777 L

Certainly a no longer in use phone number.

Here is Severin's entry in the North Dakota Public Death Index:

GUSTAFSON, SEVERIN
died 12/17/1957 Grand Forks
MALE 96 Years
born 02/21/1861
res North Dakota Grand Forks

At genealogybank.com there is a mention in November of 1900 that Severin has booked tickets on steamship for winter trip to Norway and Sweden.

This is probably his citizenship. 2nd papers means that he has completed the process and did become a US citizen. Norway is a ripple. His status in the 1900 census is naturalized, his occupation is plasterer:

Gustafson Severin Norway 2nd March 23, 1894 Grand Forks F-24 528

This may be Severin returning to US through Ellis Island. Not a lot of detail but this one is a US ciizen, Minneapolis is destination, Morup [?Sweden?] his starting point:

The death dates for Mary and Severin are correct, so they are the persons I am "hunting" down. I just wonder a bit about the names "Simon" and "Owerin" - could they be just difficult-spelt names for Severin?
Otherwise, thank you so very much for helping me in findin them again. I appreciate that very much.
Anne Brit.

I have looked at the original of each of these census forms. The 1900 US Census is difficult to read and could easily be Severin. The 1925 North Dakota Census clearly reads Simon but his wife is named next to him and it is Mary Gustafson age 50. I think that both Census forms contain the Severin you are seeking and the differences in spelling are just the way the person who wrote the names heard the names or the way the transcriber rewrote difficult to read names.
