Josephine Born 03 Oct 1874 Parents: Peder Jenssen Glæstad & Petr. Evensdatter, Blue Earth, Faribault co., MN
Bernt Christian Born 14 Apr 1877 Parents: Peder J. Glæstad & Petra E. Glæstad, Blue Earth, Faribault co., MN
I've tried to track down Peder Jenssen Glæstad, Petra Gladstad's husband. Could he be from the area where Petra were from? There is a Glæstad farm in Vardal, Oppland. Both Biri and Vardal are located in Gjøvik, Oppland. The distance between the Gullor farm in Biri (where Petra were from) and the Glæstad farm in Vardal is 28km, and takes about 30 mins to drive today.
Could he be this one? #20, Peder Jensen Born: 29 Mar 1845 Christening: 06 Apr 1845, Vardal, Oppland, Norway Parents: Jens Andersen Nyaasen & Beata Pedersdr One of the godparents is named Hans Glæstad.
Leaving the parish on 09 Apr 1866 #77, Bachelor Peder Jensen Nyaasen (21)
Passenger list bark Argonaut, dep Christiania Apr. 25 1866, arrival Quebec June 5th. #80, Peder Jensen (21), Residence Vardal
Two comments though...have not found him living at the Glæstad farm, and his death in 1880 indicate y.o.b. = 1839...

Hello,
I am also researching this Beitland-Gullord line, especially Henry Gullord and Christine Beitland.
Are there records of Chriistine Beitland's birth and christening, likely born 23 Aug 1862. Hegra, Øvre Stjørdal, Nord Trøndelag Parents: Thomas Olsen Beitland & Eli Larsdatter
And is there a death record for Karen Pedersdatter Glestad b.18 Feb 1815 in Vardal, Norway died before 1865, married name Gullord (or farm name). She was the first wife of Even Gullord.
I am new to this site so hope these questions make sense. Thank you so much for your helpfulness in this research. I am overwhelmed with the new information.

Yes, Norwegian parish records are available online for your research.
Your "Christine" was baptised Oct 12 1962 as Kirstine (record #91) in Nord-Trøndelag fylke, Hegra i Øvre Stjørdal. That record is found - http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=2460&idx_id=2460&uid=ny&idx_side=-76
For a death record check in the parish where the death happened. (Vardal parish is located in Oppland, Norway.)
The Digitalarkivet web site has been adding scanned images of the original Norwegian parish church records for anyone with Internet access since November 2005.
The Digitalarkivet web site - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar An English option is available by clicking on that word from either the left hand column or the blue link bar along the bottom of the homepage. The scanned images are available from the homepage link "Skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Digitised parish records" [English version] which is listed along the left hand column and from the blue banner of links along the top section of the homepage. Clicking on "Skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Digitised parish records" [English version] will bring up another screen and listing to choose from. Choose "Lesa skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Read the digitised parish records" [English version]. After you've clicked on that link and a new main page has presented on the screen be sure and read the instructions that are available from the Digitalarkivet for navigating the scanned records. The instructions are available in Bokmål (official Norwegian), Nyorsk (Norwegian), Davvisámegiella (Saami), and English. Recommended basic reading are the "Startsiden" [Norwegian version]/"Main page" [English version], "Brukerveiledning" [Norwegian version]/"User's guide" [English version] and "Om tjenesten" [Norwegian version]/"About this service" [English version].
Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na20.html

I see now that this is about Karen Pedersdatter on page 1 of this thread. Thank you for posting. When I go to the link that is posted, I do not get a field for entering names. Am I missing a step? Admittedly I am new at using these archives online. I appreciate your help ....this is a great great grandma to me!
With kind regards,
Ann |

I am not a good teacher :-) When you enter the link, wait a few seconds until 4 "windows" with following incriptions turns up to the left on the headline; Fornavn (First name) Etternavn (Last name) Sted (Place) and Alle kolonner (All colums) You can use Karen Pedersdatter (Firts name and lastname) or Gullord (Sted) and click on Søk
Good luck.

I am a good teacher and wanted to help here BUT I can't get any search options to show up in the link given either. Since I'm not familiar with the website offering that link I'll spend some time and see if I can figure it out.
The basic problem at this time is that the link as given offers no search options on my computer... none... no matter how long I wait.
I went to the home page of the website - http://slektshistorielaget.no/ Clicked on "In English" Then I read through the pages offered "Welcome", followed by "The sources" and finally "How to use them".
They mention specific browsers to be used (I don't use either of those) and that Java must be enabled (it is NOT on my computer). Perhaps that is the source of my problem.
I can burrow down to the level of seeing that specific database offered - "Døde i Biri og Snertingdal 1855-76" but it is marked with the green dot which indicated that I must use a specific browser.
I have one of the specific browsers mentioned on a different computer here at my house - but I won't be able to try that until later today to see if that fixes this problem. I don't recall if I have Java enabled on that computer.
Update: The search options did appear on another computer (Windows XP operating system) using Internet Explorer AND having the Java applet enabled. I choose personally to leave my Windows 7 computer Java free and use alternative browsers.

The reason you don't see the search box is that you don't have java installed.

Thank you all for your good teaching. I will try a different browser and have my husband assist if needed.
Also, for an immigrant record on Caroline Gullord, see Ancestry.com. They have a Karoline Ewensey Gullord who immigrated to Prarie Farm, Barron, WI from Biri, Norway. She was going to stay with a cousin Iver Saxberg, and Karoline's mother was Ingeborg Saxberg so this is the right Karoline. She is listed as born 1869, Scandinavian, leaving from Liverpool England on the ship Oceanic. She arrived 31 May 1907 New York, New York. She was a half sister to Henry and Martin Gullord.
She can be found a 1910 census as Caroline Johnson, married to Edward Johnson in Prarie Farm, Barron , WI. Her death date is listed as May 1913 in Ancestry family trees.
Thanks, Ann |
