I have been looking in the Norwegian records for birth, confirmation and emigration information on James N. Sandvigen, born 1866 in Norway, and died 1945 in Seattle, WA.
I don't know what the N. stands for. I have found his naturalization record in America, but nothing that matches up in Norway. I have been looking for Jens born 1866, but nothing has really matched up. Any suggestions for finding him in Norway?

Info in the naturalization record would be of interest to know.
Sandvigen could be a farmname, found in Rogaland and Vest Agder. As a rural name it exists several places.

His middlename is N, LINK

James was not common in Norway, but in 1865 there were 70 James in Norway.

A shot in the dark if he kept the initials.
James N - Jens/Jahn/Johan/John/Jacob/Jeremias N. (N for Nilsen, Narvesen, Nicolaisen??)

Father N. Sandvigen?

In Nordmændene i Amerika there is a listing of a J.N. Sandvigen, pg 903 of Volume 2:

"Sandvigen, J.N. udv. fra Aadalen 1887, hotelforettning i Seattle, Wash. siden 1892."

Sandvigen, J.N. migrated from Aadalen in 1887, hotel work or proprietor in Seattle, Washington, since 1892.

Is this your guy?

That's it! Jens Nilsen Sandvigen from Ådal. Thank you so much to all of you that searched ! That's unbelievable, as I was in Ådal. this summer and at the Viker church. The same church where my g. grandmother was baptized and confirmed. Wish I had known it then, I would have tried to find the farm.

Its a small world.
Probably still relatives lives in Ådal.

Gunnhilds sister Tonette age 10 in 1865 on Sandvigen married Fredrik Fredriksen and settled down on Sandviken, 3 children in 1900, her father widower Thor Nilsen b. 1818 lived on the farm as "Kaarmand"

Jens/James Nilsen had a halfbrother with the same name, b. August 14. 1869, both named after their grandfather Jens Nilsen Vikermoen age 66 in 1865, see #54
Jens Nilsen Sandvigens parents never married, his father Nils Jensen Vikermoen married Kari Torkildsdatter b. 1843.
They got a son Jens Nilsen Vikermoen in 1868.

Jens Nilsen married Karoline Andersdatter b. 1869 and takes over Vikermoen, two daughters, Kari and Anne in 1900 and Jens Vikermoens mother Kari Torkildsdatter.

My g. g. grandfather was Elling Fredriksen Ringerud. I visited the Ringerud farm and the Bergsund farm (where my g. grandmother (Anne Ellingsdatter Bergsundeie) was born in 1845. After her father's death she emigrated to America in 1861 with her mother, Ingeri Ostensdatter (second wife of Elling) and her sister Berit, and married my g. grandfather, Elling Pedersen Enger, in Wisconsin. I will have to look up Fredrik Fredriksen. Maybe they were related!
