I have read one of Ole Rølvågs books many years ago but not "Giants of the earth" about the Norwegian settlers in Dakota.
He was born 1876 on the island Dønna in Nordland county almost neighbor to where my grandfather was born 1897, Ole Rølvåg emigrated 1896.
1906 he was proffesor at St. Olavs College Minnesota.

A great person.

Kåre.

Yes, and his brother was governor of Minnesota 1963-1967. A memorial to him in Sioux Falls, SD at Augustana College has the Berdahl-Rolvaag house (Berdahl was his wife's name) and Ole Rolvaag's writing cabin. The house, which evolved from an original "soddie" was moved there from Garretson, SD. The Berdahl's son James and Ole Rolvaaag were both students at Augustana Academy at one time. The writing cabin was moved there from northern Minnesota in 2001 to what they call the Augustana Heritage Park. "Giants in the Earth" was written there in September and October 1923. It was originally in Norwegian and then translated to English.

Now i understand your relationship to the N. Avskåkålien better after reading your posting twice, it was the Morten/Mortensen family on the Nortern Avskåkålilen.
Lars Mortensen married to Sønnev Olsdatter was your Kari´s brother..

A small correction for Aadalin/Adalin since you do not use the letter Å, the correct name is Ådalen or Ådal
