I’m looking for Alma’s surname and her living descendants. She was born in Norway around the turn of the century 1899-1900. In 1955 she lives in: 151 Garden ave, Manistique, Michigan.
I have letters she wrote to my grandma and grandpa, and there she says she have 8 children named Gudrun, Ingrid, Esther, Ellen, Ruth, Sigrid, Rolf and Verner. (She also mentioned some surnames of the married daughters, but I don’t think I can write them here?) She visited us in Norway twice and I have a picture of her and my grandparents. In my childhood we always talked about her as “aunt Alma” – and I thought she was a cousin of my grandma, but after reading her letter I wonder if she was working in my great grandfathers restaurant or being their neighbor or something?
If anyone knows her name and her surname – I could find out a lot more about her. Now every seach stops with my missing of the surname.

There is a Family Tree on Ancestry.com owned by aliceflu48 that contains a Eric Spiegler Jr. married to a Ingrid R. Birth 18 DEC 1918 in Manistique, Schoolcraft County, Michigan Death 12 JAN 1998 in Lindenhurst, Lake County, Illinois
They have at least one son Ronald E. Spiegler Birth 19 SEP 1948 in Chicago, Illinois Death 10 AUG 2001 in Waukegan, Lake County, Illinois
And one child listed as Private
If you google aliceflu48 perhaps you will be able to e-mail her and obtain the names of some living descendants of Ingrid Rustad. |

Curious indeed. Alma is travelling to her friend Marie Pettersen in Manistique, Michigan. The person on the line above her is Stina Andersen age 72, widowed travelling to her sons, looks like "Arta Reestad" also in Manistique, Michigan. Stina has lived in US 1909-1911. Interesting since Alma married Anton on 30 July 1912, 6 days after landing in US.
Here is Anton with his mother Stina in 1910 in Manistique: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MLTQ-DRB |

I'm so grateful for all the help. Yes, it's the right persons you have found. I will look for Stina Andersen in Oslo before she left for America in 1909. She could be the reason of why Alma left for America, Alma's mother was a poor widow with many children and no job. Alma was her oldest daughter, and she was working in the hotel in 1910 . I can't find her connection to my family. In her letters she says that my grandpa and grandma was "her home in Norway".
Her first child, Sigrid Rustad, is not mentioned in the census given in the beginning og this tread. (maybe she had already moved away from her parents?) She was born in 1912 or 1913. In 1955 Alma says in a letter that "she is the oldest child of mine, and she lives in Minneapolis, and she has two daugthers.
If Sigrid was born in 1912, Alma must have been pregnant when she arrived USA? I also wondered about Alma getting married shortly after the arrival - when all records in Norway said she when to America to "earn money"?
I'll try to contact the mail-adress you gave me..
PS. Esther was married to a man named Franck Dalla Valle and she moved to Chicago.
