I'm researching my great grandmother who came to New Zealand on the Hovding in 1872 (Nicoline Olsen). Her death recors note her parents as: Olsen Laurissen, and Christine (nee Nikolsen) Laurissen, residing in Fredrikskid Norway. I seek any information about remaining family members in Norway. |

They married in Lier March 18. 1848. Ole Lauritsen from farm Lian-eie and Maren Kirstine Nicolaisdatter Lian-eie #3
They got a daughter Oline (Nicoline?) Feb. 2. 1849. The mother Maren Kirstine is wrongspelled Larsdatter instead of Nicolaisdatter #29
Nicoline was 23 when she em. on Hĝvding 1872, born ca 1849

Hi - thank you so much! The information looks very reliable.
Nicoline (Oline) had 7 children in New Zealand. She may have been thinking of her brothers. Her eldest son was named "Gustav" and her third eldest son (my grandfather) "Ludvig". Now I'll look for her siblings' families in Norway. |

He was the only Ole Lauritsen b. between 1820-1830 and she the only Maren (Kirstine) Nicolaidatter born between 1820-30 in the whole Norway and one Christine Nicolaisdatter but she was married to another, so the possibility of there is any others is like zero.
And she em. with Hĝvding to Norsewood N.Z. 1872 from Fredrikstad.
If we could find her in the 1865 census or the em. record for 1872 we could be 100% sure, but the name of two of her children correspond well

Then we can be sure she is the correct Nicoline, born in Lier parish.
Her mother was bap. (Maren) Kristine as you wrote and not (Maren) Kirstine as written in the other records. She was born out of wedloc Mai. 22. 1821, bap. in Bakke church in Skotselv in Ĝvre Eiker municipality, right page #67
Parents; Nicolai Hasselvaerk (Bistrup) and Marte Johannesdatter.
Hasselvaerk was Hassel jernverk, Hassel iron works in Bakke subparish at Modum, where Maren christine was born. Nocolai probably worked there, painting of Hassel Iron works 1805, see here

This is more wonderful news! I'll aim to trace descendents in Norway to make contact. Tracing the records is skillful. Thank you each very much for connecting people who get "lost" through the years from their home regions. It took such courage to emigrate and then undergo the hardships of a colonial life, and it's quite emotional to have the information. |

In the wedding record her father Nicolai is marked with a + for dead. He wasn´t, his right name was Nicolai Valentin Bidstrup born in Copenhagen August 27. 1802, bap in Vċr frelsers kirke.
He left Eiker and moved to Rakkestad where he 1832 married Maren Henriksdatter, they got 5 children; Jens 1834, Line Marie 1835, Hans Wilhelm 1837, Nicolai 1840, Maren Elisabeth 1842 and Anton 1846.
Rakkestad is close to Fredrikstad where Maren Christine Nicolaisdatter and Ole Lauritsen settled down. I doubt Maren Christine knew that since he was marked + when she married 1848.

To find living relatives is difficult. I found a huge familytree on the Bidstup family. It has a homepage, Nicolai Valentin Bidstrup and Maren Christine Nicolaisdatter are mentioned under # 4.52, see here
The familytree tells that Nicoli Valantin died on farm V (Western) Fĝrrisdal in Rakkestad Mai 19. 1884. It correspond with the church book from Rakkestad. He was a leaseholder and painter: Died Mai 13. buried Mai 25. 1884. Married painter Nicolai Valentin Bidstrup born 1802 in Copenhagen, recidence V. Fĝrrisdal #19
