Following along and I think I have it straight -
Matt and Engle are not brothers. Probably friends in America and likely knew each other in Norway.
The name "Dale" comes because they are both born in Dale, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. (?)

Mathias Johannessen Dale
born 26 June 1878, parents Johannes Ellingsen and Agathe Hansdatter, confirmed October 1893 in Gloppen

World War I Draft Registration - Matheas Johanneson Dale in Minneapolis born 26 Jun 1878

Ingebrigt Andreas Monsen Dale
born 02 May 1880, parents Mons Pedersson and Berthe Ingelbrightsdatter, confirmed October 1894 in Gloppen

World War I Draft Registration - Engle Dale born 02 May 1880 (living a few houses away from Matheas in Minneapolis)

As posted earlier the two seem to be together in 1905 in Osceola, Wisconsin: Matt Johnson Dale age 26 and Ingel Dale age 24 , living in a boarding house.

I really appreciated your huge help and got surprised that you, all got all the right and straight information about Matt and Engle (Ingebright) Dale. I did not realize that Matt and Engle were not the brothers. They were possibly the cousins. Last week I entered digitalarkivet.no again and gave up because I never understood their last names being different or not same. Now I caught what you found for me. Yes, It made a sense that Engle A. or Engle M. Dale in America = Engle (Ingebright) A. (Andreas) M. (Monsen) Dale. The correct arrival date was 1903. Great! I have one question. See Ingebrigt's parents were Mons Pedersson and Berthe Ingelbrightsdatter. No Dale? Where did Ingebrigt get last name " Dale" from? Was Dale a town name? Can you explain to me clearly about their Norwegian rules of names? Now I feel good and will tell my friend, Sam Dale tomorrow. Great about Marie Valaker's parents. thanks again, Ted

Ingelbright was bap. in Breim old medieval church, Gloppen.
The church was demolished before 1886 when Breim new church was build, the photo is from ca 1880-86, link

Breim old church was located to farm Hetle.
Ca 1,2 Miles slightly to the right, not visible, is farm Dale.

The lake is called Breimsvatnet.

Breim church from 1886 link

Brite (Brithe) born Jan. 26. bap. Feb. 7.1836.
Parents; Ingebrigt Johanessen Ĝversĉter and Ane Johanesdatter #7
One of the godfathers, Ingebrigt or Anes brother, Niels Johannesen, was from Dale.

Perhaps the Dale name is coming from Brites family?

No names on Anes father when she married Ingebrekt Johansen Dec. 10. 1820, he was from Ĝversĉter age 20 and Ane age 20 from farm Kaale, see right page #20

Dale was two farms in 1801.
I am not sure, but have a strong feeling that Johannes Ellingsen age 6, son on Elling Johannesen 46 and Synneve Arnesdatter 35 on Dale in 1801 was Ane Johannesdatters father
.

Johannes age 6 in 1801 was not Anes father.
