It' not just you, this phenomenon has occured a couple of times this week to me.
Here is Else Kathrine Andersdtr Bikjend leaving, it looks like to Christiania--wife of Olavus Ramberg and he is in America already, attest dated 1859 and 12 Sept 1861 (why 2 dates?) #34 in Utflyttedes:
Kildeinformasjon: Buskerud fylke, Kongsberg, Ministerialbok nr. 10 (1859-1875), Inn- og utflyttede 1861, side 341. Permanent sidelenke: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1099&idx_id=1099&uid=ny&idx_side=-328
Full reading about the shooting of Mrs. Goebel is quite interesting:
St. Paul daily globe. (Saint Paul, Minn.), 06 Dec. 1886. Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers. Lib. of Congress, page 5, col 1. see Jane's link

There were 3 articles, 6 Dec, 8 Dec, 9 Dec. I took out the non working links and replaced with the copied from the browser window link. The non-working ones were copied from the identifications at the bottom of the page and were listed as "permanent page link" Kind of funny at the digitalarkivet site the browser window links don't work and only the permanent page link does work. Exact opposite at Chronicling America. Go figure. |

Else Katrine went to Oslo 1859 but was not rec. before Sept. 12. 1861. Her husband Olaves Ramberg who was in America worked with fuhr clothing.

Karen Kristine (Tollefsdatter) Bikjend born Lindaas em. from Kongsberg after 1865. Who went with her?
From what I read most of the em. from Kongsberg after 1865 went to Wisc. or Minnesota.
Here she is in Bikjend street 1865, widow and mother in law to Christian Paulsen, "Stiger" Foreman in the silver mines. Karen Andrea 40 is her daughter, 4 granddaughters link

Tollef Bikjend left Kongsberg 1866 (but to where?) Isac was his son, he "fulgt faderen" (followed the father) went to his father 1873.

I read it as Tollef and his son Isac went to "Vigsnes kobber..." Vigsnes/Visnes copper works on Karmĝy was opened 1865. Visnes copper was exported to France. In popular speech on Karmĝy; The Staue of Liberty is dressed with copper from Visnes.

I know that their daughter mentioned earlier in this thread appears here in the Kongsberg records with a listed birthdate of 31 Mar 1833 -- but for the life of me I cannot read that handwriting to offer how the name was spelled in that record. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1097&idx_id=1097&uid=ny&idx_side=-197
Her name was Else Cathrine. |

It is in this link that Karen is listed as a Halvorsdatter not a Tollefsdatter. |

Probably an error. Else Cathrine born March 31 and bap. Mai 4. 1833 in Kongsberg church. Parents; Anders Svendsen Bikjen and Karen Kirstine Halvorsdr.
Here she is in 1840 with 7 of her siblings from age 15 to 2 and a half. Reg. Isac Andersen its written that they have lived here for many years. nr 3160-3169 Both parents and the sons Tollef and Johnn, both with occ; silver miners. Johan 33 was from Anders Svendsen Bikjends first marriage.

It's a bit peculiar that Karen seems to have gotten the 17 years older in only the American records--and stayed consistently older in them.
Perhaps, if she got an attest to travel, that she was maybe given her husband's first wife data by mistake? Do we have information on the first wife from the family tree online?
Anders first wife's name was Anne Serine Helgesdatter probably the same one working on Bikiend in 1801 age 24--so born about 1777 same as Anders.
Thanks to all for participation! |
