Perhaps more info exist in Lærdal bygdebok volume 1.
Unfortunately these books are not online link but the owner of this page offers to do lookups. Click on "Kontakt meg" and ask him for help.
Here Liv Baardsdatter Øvreqvamme is recorded leaving Lærdal for Hallingdal June 19. 1855, see right hand #95

Thank you for the link.
Does anyone have information on lookups for Gol?
Interesting that Liv stayed in Lærdal for 5½ years after her family relocated to Gol, I hope I can find out what she was up to. At least when she traveled it was the middle of June, peak tourist season! |

I "saw" them leaving Lærdal on Dec. 14. To cross the mountain in December where one could be surprised by strong cold and snowstorms with children from 17-3 is almost unthinkable even people were stronger at that time.
Have you seen when they were recorded incoming to Halllindal ?
It happened that migration were recorded on a completely diff. time, some years afterwards.
Its more interesting to search for records when you have been to all places which you have.

I can't find a Trøo farm in Hol on kart.finn.no, where is it? It's not where my ancestors came from but I'm curious.
Actually there are 2 Trøo in Hol one in an area called "Kvisla" and the other in an area called "Lio".
The one in Kvisla is described as "Sjølveigarbruk unna nordre søre Kaupang" & first mentioned 1786 and occupied until at least 1957 (Hol VI, pg 303-315). The one in Lio (Hol III VI, pg707-721)is mentioned as "fra 1924: Kongsland" a name change and "fraskilt fra Isungset 1793". The Kvisla one had the Nils resident but a closer read tells that he had no children. The Lio one had many immigrants to America who ended in Iowa, Estherville, Turkey River and a few other places. Other farms taken from Trøo / Kongsland are Fredly I, Fredly II, Granheim.
Travel in winter was sometimes undertaken on frozen rivers, if there is a connecting river that is. And not mentioning, of course, on skis. |

They were recorded arriving 06 Jan 1850 [(Source information: Buskerud county, Gol, Parish register (official) nr. I 2 (1837-1863), Emigration records 1850-1851, Imigration records 1850-1856, page 670-671. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20061115040513.jpg)] Entries 1~6. Anyone have an idea what the entries in columns 4-8 are?
Frozen river or skis, not my idea of Christmas vacation.

So was Bård Hansen and wife Ingrid from Kvame in Borgund (Lærdal) owners of Geitehuso. They sold the farm to Arne Eikre and em.to America in 1857..........the children to Bård and Ingrid, Mari, married 1857 Halvor Hagaeie in Gol. Liv, Hans, Halvor and Bård pronounced Bår has never been used in Hemsedal, but is very common in Western Norway.
Perhaps you have family in Hallingdal?
Baard - Bård - Bår pronounced B- Å (oa in boat) R (r in road)

Don't know about family in Hallingdal but if anyone in Norway wants to adopt me let me know!
Are there property transfer records that would show the sale of Geitehuso in 1857. I would love to know how much money they had when they came to USA. I believe my gggfather Nils Nilsen began to acquire his land upon the death of Bård Hansen abt 1867.
My research shows Mari & Halvor emigrating to Decorah, Iowa where he died abt 1865. She remarried Svening Hansen abt 1866 and died in 1917.
The 1860 US census lists "Hanson, Beaur & Ingre", Springfield Township, Winneshiek County Iowa. |

Amazing name "Geitehuso" Haling dialect for Geithuset. Goat house, a fine place for goats or perhaps the terrain surrounding the farm was steep.
Cant find Trøo in the map.

Look for Kongsland in Hol.
Here's a register for one of the Trøo starting from 1759: Source information: Protocol number: V 1, Place: Hallingdal sorenskriveri, Hol tinglag, Location: SAKO Remarks: Hol (Fleischers register). Løpenr. 339-561. Tinglysinger 1736-1860. Se forklaring. Autor. 14.11.1864. Fol. 328b-330b: kirken, Åmots sauger, kongetiende. Fol. 331b flg.: kontinuasjoner. Alfabetisk fortegnelse over løpenr. Haven't learned much about the Ship Veranda but I've learned a lot about my family!
In the Hemsedals Slektshistorie on pg 77: Intelhusbakko Gnr 57, bnr 6, lnr 582
"Mari d.y. 1867 g m Knut Trøo, dei hadde 7 born"
Knut Trøo b 9 Apr 1855 d 3 Nov 1931 was my gggfather Nils' brother. I have Mari as Mary Bakken b 21 Jan 1867 d 20 Mar 1952. They were married 10 Jun 1892 and had 8 children though one died young Orien Grant Troe b 6 Sep 1905 d 12 Nov 1909. All are buried in Emmons, MN.
Now that I know where Mary came from I'll have to do some research on her ancestors. I have family correspondence that said Nils Nilsen went back to Norway and brought back his friends, the Bakkens, and I know that he reentered via Ellis Island in 1898 (listing his residence as Valdres!).
Does anyone know of an online Slekt for the Hemsedal region? |

Actually the hard copy 1976 edition Mari and Knut are on pg 142, under Intelhusbakko. Her parents are Andres Olsen Intelhusbakko and Aase Bjørnsdatter Løkji (Løken)
There is an online version which I couldn't load this morning on my computer but if you Google Hemsedals Slektshistorie it will find the pdf of it and it has eikre.net in the address. |

This is how I read it. Trøo (G nr 61 B nr 5) was a subfarm under Isungset (G nr 61) also called Øen (Island)
Trøo is called "Trøo i Lien" Trøo in the hillside. The protocol ends Oct. 1856 and is confirmed Oct. 1857 and tells that Anders Olsen and Kari Olsdatter and their son Ole Andersen secured themselves a legal right on "Livøre", same as "Føderaad" a legal right on free stay and supplies on Trøo as long as they lived (probably the parents) when they sold Trøo.
Ole Andersen was owner or partowner of Trøo in 1855. The new owner is not mentioned. Seems Ole Andersen Luten sold or transfered a part or right in Trøo 1871 to Lars Larsen.
G. nr 61 was the main number in the farmregister for Isungset, Trøo G nr 61 B nr 5 tells that Trøo was the 5. farm that was separated from Isungset, total nr. for farms separated from Isungset was 44.
