Engaged Oct. 12.
"Konge bevilling til ĉgteskab.............." Royal permission to marry........ 4. line is dif. to read Last line; Caut (Guarantors) witnesses Ole and Halvor Olsen
You had to have permissin from the authorities to marry up to 2. cousin or other reasons.
You do not know what farm they came from, perhaps we then can find out the reason?

Another reason to ask for "Royal permission" was to get married at home if the bride or groom was sick or because the couple would not appear in public because the bride was visible pregnant.

Sorry to be so slow to reply. We have had storms and been without electricity for 50 hours!
I have been unable to ascertain yet if the couple was related in any way. They, Ole and Margit, lived on Orvella in Sauland. His grandparents were from Aase in Heddal and further back to Flaaten, I believe. This is one of my "short ending" lines. I am suspicious that Ole's grandfather, Torjus Anderson (who was married to Tore Ostensdatter Aase) was the son of Anders, son of Jesper Flaaten. I would like to make the connection with the Heddal sogneprest Jen Jacobsen who was married to a Mette Jespersdatter....could Jesper Flaaten be a son of the couple? Only three duaghters are mentioned in the bygdebok. Too much guesswork without any documentation!
Thanks again for your able help. Marlys |

50 hours without electrisity, I can imagine how it was. You are well informed. A summary and add. info.
Peter Aase and unknown wife in addition to Aase also cultivated "Ĝdegaarden" Flaaten. Ĝdegard means that Flaaten was abandoned during the black plague 1349-50 where 50% of the population died. Peter Aase and his unknown wife got three sons; - Ole 1618-1692 and heir to Aase. - Ĝsten 1630, d. on Aase 1713, age 83, his wife was Signe, she died on Aase 1702, age 80. In 1665 Ĝsten Petersen Aase cultivated Aase, with him was his youngest brother Tarald age 14 (born 1649) and a soldier, 24 years old Helge Paulsen.
Ĝsten and Signe got a daughter Tore Ĝstensdatter, she married dec. 16. 1700 Torjus Andersen. They lived on Aase from 1702-1711 and got 4 children; Anders 1712, Signe 1704, Peter 1706 and a child born spring 1711.
Peter Torjusen born 1706 was father to Ole Petersen who married Margit Olsdatter 1762, correct ?

Perhaps Peter Torjusen born on Aase 1706 moved to Hjartdal? An Ole Petersen was born on Froland in Sauland, Hjartdal 1736, bap. march 10. His father was Peter Torjusen Froland.

From the Sauland bygdebok: Torjus Anderson and Tore Ostensdtr (Aase) were on Orvella in Sauland in the 1720-1730 era. So their son Peter lived there and married a Tone Kjetilsdtr. (parents unknown to me). Their son was the Ola Peterson who married Margit Olsdtr. (in Heddal) and had the notation that you decifered for me.
So many marriage/birth entries in Heddal/Hjartdal were made without using farm names OR parents, that it leaves me in a sea of Oles and Kittils, mostly! Thanks for any light you can shed on this family
I have been been interested in the use of the name Jesper (Aase) and wondering why the prominent Ramsberg family's daughter (Kari Johnsdatr.) would marry someone that didn't have a simiar background. (Jesper Flaaten perhaps the priest's son??) I know that is a "stretch, but the Jesper name is intriguing, as the priest's wife was Mette Jespersdatter. I don't know how to find more information on various priests...though I have researched enough to connect to the Munchs and eventually to Jens Staby who was Danish.

John Ramberg, sheriff in Heddal 1593 and 1604, lived in 1625. He was wealthy and owned parts in many farms as Ramberg in Heddal, Flatland in Lisleherad, Sĉrsland in Hjartdal, Mork, Risvold and Flaaten in Heddal.
Two of the children are known. A son Tov Johnsen Ramberg and a daughter Kari Johnsdatter Ramberg d. before 1650 married to Jesper Flaaten, mentioned on Flaaten 1645-56. They got 3 children; Lucas 1625, Anders 1628 and Johanne 1631.
Anders Jespersen Flaaten married Anne 1. Sunday in Advent 1652. Anders lived as leaseholder on Flaaten 1663 and on N. (Northern) Aase from 1685-93 and on Ĝen under Aase in 1699, buried June 12. 1708 "one hundred years old" ac. to the church book, acc. to the 1665 census he was 80. His son Lucas lived in 1726.

Sauland Bygdebok as well as for all the Bygdebooks from Hjartdal, are very rich in details. but can be difficult to read and navigate in if one does not read Norwegian.
Heddal Bygdebok is written by O.H.Holta 1926. A great advantage that the author knew many of the persons he wrote about, but since 1926 there are so many new sources and information available so the book should have been revised and would probably consisted of at least 5 volumes.
I will look for a connection between pastor Jens Jacobsen and Mette Jespersdatter tomorrow. Jens Jacobsen was pastor in Heddal , mentioned in documents 1578-80-90-93 in1600 and 1603.

Jesper Flaaten was probably a well-respected person in Heddal, he was farmovner and not a cottager, he also owned a part in Aase, and he married the daughter of the sheriff.
Sheriff John Ramberg owned a part in Flaaten 1612.
Heddal Stavechurch owned a small part in Flaaten 1650

Sheriff John Rambergs residence, first floor is from ca 1605, see here Most of the timber are from 1603, but the oldest log is from 1351, one year after the black plague.

It is a small world. And only one of Tov´s children is known, Mathias d. 1651 married to Mari Sigurdsdatter.
Jesper Flaaten. The reason O.H.Holta believe Jesper Flaaten was an descendant to pastor Jens Jacobsen and Mette Jespersdatter are the names of the children. Another descendant to pastor Jacobsen was most likely Jacob Strand who had two daughters, Mette and Kirsti. They were most likley descendants after pastor Jens daughter Anne who was married to Bent, probably sheriff Bent Huristveit who lived on Huristveit 1570 which was a descendant to sheriff Are Ĝstensen Strand/Huristveit. This could explain that the family came to Huristveit which again point to the pastor´s family. The name Johannes has also come to Heddal with the pastor´s family.

Your statements agree with what I was thinking...the name similarities makes one think there were connections. As to Anders, son of Jesper Flaaten, being my ancestor...I went through the 1665 census to find all the Anders...I believe there were only four, and Anders, son of Jesper seemed the best match because Torjus Anderson was born about 1663....a little jump without documentation!
I'm also suspicious about sogneprest Jens Jacobson and his wife having Danish origins....perhaps since "my" other Danish priest/grandfather was a Jens Jenson Staby....perhaps Jens and Jesper are more typically Danish names? Googling Mette Jespersdatter brings up Danish results. Things that whet ones curiosity!

Pastor Jens Jacobsen. He was often involved in disputes with farmers reg. the borders between the farms. A diploma d. Feb. 3. 1608 announced that blessed (deceased) "hr" mr Jens Jacobsen´s survivor Mette Jespersdatter on Heddal rectory set up a summary list of the inventory of what is available at the rectory and delivered to the currant pastor, mr Jacob Pedersen.
Jens Jacobsen and Mette Jespersdatter got three daughters; - Marin, married to Sĝfren Tomson in Vinje parish, widowed and married 2. time to Peder Simonsen in Lardal parish. - Johanne, unmarried 1595 - Anne married Bent (Huristveit?)
No info where Jens Jacobsen came from.
