The 1865 census (you don't say where you found those people in the census) gives each person's birthplace. That district or parish is where you look in the church records of births and baptisms to find the original record.
The detail available in the extensive parish church records is a marvelous gift from Norway. The Digitalarkivet web site has been adding scanned images of the original Norwegian parish church records for anyone with Internet access since November 2005. To be able to use the parish records you must first know WHERE in Norway you want to search for this documentation. 'Nordrehoug' and 'Aadalen' are OLD spellings of districts/parishes which you will find in Buskerud, Norway. (The parish records are also available on LDS Family History Library microfilm which you can order through their website.)
The Digitalarkivet web site - (http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar) An English option is available by clicking on that word from either the left hand column or the blue link bar along the bottom of the homepage. The scanned images are available from the homepage link "Skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Digitised parish records" [English version] which is listed along the left hand column and from the blue banner of links along the top section of the homepage. When you click on that link another page will present a short list of choices - choose "Read the digitized parish registers"[English version]/"Lesa skanna kykrebøker" [Norwegian version]. After you've clicked on that link and a new main page has presented on the screen be sure and read the instructions that are available from the Digitalarkivet for navigating the scanned records. The instructions are available in Bokmål (official Norwegian), Nyorsk (Norwegian), Davvisámegiella (Saami), and English. Recommended basic reading are the "Startsiden" [Norwegian version]/"Main page" [English version], "Brukerveiledning" [Norwegian version]/"User's guide" [English version] and "Om tjenesten" [Norwegian version]/"About this service" [English version].
Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site - (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na20.html)

More Information:
Helge Halvorsen appears to have lived with another family, with his wife and two children as of the 1865 Census. He wasn't listed under his father and mother then Found here: http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=0614&kenr=011&bnr=0026&lnr=000,
Halvor Helgesen was married to Chetina Klemendsdatter...(this information came from the elders in the family, and I think they knew the name, but couldn't spell it. The listing in the 1865 Census for these relatives was found here: http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=0614&kenr=009&bnr=0035&lnr=000.
I think the spelling given by my elders is how the name was pronounced in English. Helge took on the name "Henry" according to Wisconsin records. I have their records since they came to America, and their descendants here, and I'm planning on publishing the information when I find out where they all came from, and any extra information about their extended families. :D
The links don't seem to work, but this one should. http://www.rhd.uit.no/indexeng.html

The age doesn't fit, so these two Halvor Helgesen doesn't seem to be the same one. The second one is your guy (married to Kristi Clemetsdr). But it seems he is listed as widower (Enkemand), indicating he has been married before. If his age was 38 not 33, it could be the same person.

Okay, so my Halvor Helgesen was born 1802 or 1803, Place of birth in my document is Skalerns Eie Aadalen, Norway. He died Nov 12 1898 in Arland, Wisconsin USA.
His wife was born in 1819 Bernnda Eie Aadalin. I don't know if she was born in 1912.. family records are scattered, and mostly from memory of the elders. She died in 1906 in Arland, Wisconsin USA
The only way I could verify then, is find a birth record? This would have their parents names, correct? How would I find birth records then?
Helge, was born Jan 1837

Helge Larsen and Ragnil Halvorsdtr lives on Røningsand in 1801. Could "Bernnda Eie Aadalin" be Bersundeie which seems to be the name of the farm of Kristi Clemetsdr at marriage. "Skalerns Eie Aadalen" sounds like Skollerudeie.

Yes, Halvor Helgesen died in 1898 in Barron County, City of Arland, Wisconsin USA. It's possible that this is Helge's brother.

Oppeneie is the name of a farm Oppen with the additional eie information meaning the husmandplass of Oppen. Norderhov is a parish, Buskerud is the fylke like a county or state in US. |
