My ancestors since c.1830 or earlier were fishermen who lived at the fishing village of Veidhomen off of the island of Smola, More og Romsdal, I am trying to find out more information about the fishing boats they would have used and more about the daily life of fishermen and their families during this time period. I have been reading about the small boat called a "faerling" . Would this have been the boat used off Smola in the Norwegian sea? About daily life, I have found -0- to tell me how they lived except the houses were small (cabins) and that the mortality rate of fishermen was high. On the 1865 census for Veidholmen, my ancestor was 56 and about the oldest fisherman in the village. Others were in their 3os and 40s.

Sorry for the typo. The small boat used to travel and fish is called a "faering", not faerling.
