Having some "fun" this evening going through the ancestry.com passenger manifests of New York arrivals. So far I haven't found the three Tesli women, but did see some interesting transcriptions, including "Jugebory" for Ingeborg. ;-) This is definitely a project for many days ahead.

The address of the Ivar Iversen in the 1875 census is
Munkedamsveien 21

Is anyone familiar with the landscape in Oslo as which church might be the closest to that address?

Oslo Domkirke would be the closest.

Ivar Frithjof Iversens parents Elling Iversen and Johanne Johnsen were married Sept 19 1856, #167.

Johanne Johnsen was born July 22 1820, #40 - her parents were Nicolai Joensøn and Karie Ottesdatter, Ytte Midthun.

Elling Iversen was from Fanø, a Danish island close to Esbjerg. His parents were Christopher Olsen and Gjertrue Andersen.

Elling Iversen died April 26 1858, #1.

Interesting so she is from Evindvig and he is from Fana, west coast & Danish folks. Very likely that is her as the headmistress of the orphanage then in 1865.

Here she is confirmand #1:

The parents you list are not Ellings parents, but from a stillbirth on May 24th, 1858.
Student Elling Iversen's (40) residence at the time of death reads "Toftes Gave", an orphanage in Munkedamsveien 37, Christiania.
The orphanage was given to Christiania municipality by the businessman Andreas Tofte in 1842. In those days the only orphanage in Norway.
Later moved to Helgøya in Ringsaker, Hedmark.

And Elling was not from Fanø, Denmark, but from Fana, Hordaland, Norway:

The main building from 1723 is protected by law, and is today housing Fana Folkehøgskule, a college without any formal education.

OH WOW.
I cannot thank everyone enough! Seriously, this is a tremendous find. Please let me know how you would like to be thanked or have the favor returned. I am so grateful.
I had really started to think nothing could ever be discovered about Iver F.

The death of Elling looks like the cause of death is "nervefeber" (nerve fever). Do you think this is a mental breakdown, or is it typhoid fever?

Also wondering if anyone has speculation about Elling being a student. Would he have been a student living at the orphanage? Age 40 seems too old for this. Maybe he was a headmaster but also studying a second career somewhere else?

Once I receive the United States death records of Iver's mother and wife from IRAD (hopefully next week), I will update all of this new information into the report.

Again, I am so grateful to you!

Beautiful pictures, Jan Peter.

I still don't know how all of you found this information. I spent several hours last night with no results. I'm still not very good with Norewegian databases, but getting better. Thank you again!

Nervefeber = Typhoid fever

The honor should go to jkmarler, who found his confirmation record, and living at the orphanage in 1865.

Toftes Gave was a "rescue-, improvement- and support institution for the elderly, neglected children of both sexes."
Toftes Gave student (orphanage) protocols, 1841-1925. Unfortunately, 1848-1869 are missing.

I think being a student at age 40, it could mean that he was studying to become a teacher or a supervisor at the orphanage.

Another thought about the 1865 orphanage census - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=4&filnamn=f60301&gardpostnr=1023&personpostnr=27783&merk=27783#ovre
Johanne Ivers. Would the Johanna Nicolaisdatter Johnsen have taken the last name Iverson when she became widowed? Or is this too unlikely? Still, the headmistress and Johanna Johnsen were both from Evindvig, making this a likely match
Also, the Ivar Ivers. listed in the 1865 orphanage census could be a different boarder? He is not specified as being Johanne's son. ?

Actually, he was a student at the University!
A wonderful document. It confirms his d.o.b., his student history and his occupation at the orphanage.
