This post is connected to the long thread on Edvard Hansen Rødalshaugen http://www.norwayheritage.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5755&whichpage=1&SearchTerms=Edvard,Hansen,R%F8dalshaugen

I have new information on Nils Hansen Rødalshaugen, and I hope that this might lead to some descendants or, hopefully, some information on the fate of Edvard. Nils was the older brother of Edvard, and he was born 26 December 1857. He is listed in the church record among the "udflyttede" 31 May 1879, at the top of the page in this link http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=4073&uid=ny&idx_side=-242

So far, I have not found Nils among the lists of emigrants at Arkivverket/digitalarkivet, or on a list of passengers. Perhaps someone has further information on his emigration details?

Nils married Ida Olsdotter Gundstad, Krokum, 29 April 1878 in Sør-Fron, listed as number 4 in this link http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6081&uid=ny&idx_side=-311
Nils and Ida had a daughter, Hanna, 1 June 1878. She was born and christened the same day at Rødalshaugen, which may indicate that she was weak at birth. One of her sponsors was her uncle, Edvard Rødalshaugen. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=4073&uid=ny&idx_side=-7

Ida and her two children, Anna Amundsdotter and Hanna Nilsdotter, emigrated 14 May 1880, traveling on the Angelo from Christiania to Hull. Their destination was Westby, WI, so Nils had probably settled there the year before http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=8&filnamn=emikra1&gardpostnr=19096&merk=19096#ovre

I have not been able to find the family in the censuses, but their surname is again a problem, so I have been looking at a number of possibilities. I will post again if I find anything more. if anyone is related to these people or has additional information, please respond!

The 1895 census also asks some questions about the length of residency in the enumeration district and state...

Hannah Hanson married a second time to Edw. Rale in 1919:
RALE, HANNAH
Date of Birth: 01 Jun 1878
Place of Birth: OUT OF STATE
Mother Maiden Name: PETERSON
certid# 1967-MN-019541
Date of Death: 02 Aug 1967
County of Death: CROW WING

Birthdate matches original post.

Thanks for all the information in the above posts! It will take a while to sift through it. I will be away for a few days and will get back to this when I return.

The information available through the censuses and church records in Norway is not the problem, and I think we have found most of what is to be had. I can also look for more on Ida Olsdotter, such as a shifteprotokoll from her parents' deaths. The descendants of Edvard Hansen Rødalshaugen in Norway have recently talked with relatives who have moved to Rødalshaugen. There is apparently some information there, and they will visit the farm in a few weeks. More information if anything of interest turns up!
