Hi Jan,

Thank you for finding all if this information. I just talked to my 2nd cousin Gloria about Peter and she has no information about him, so I would not have known anything else about him if it wasn't for all your help as well as everyone elses. I still have a few questions. Peter in the US census is this same person? Residence year 1903 shows him and Oliver living at the same address in Seattle, Washington. Also, do I disregard the census information about him living in Illinoise?

Nancy

Name: Peter A Everson
Residence Year: 1903
Street Address: 1927 7th av W
Residence Place: Seattle, Washington
Occupation: Miner
Publication Title: Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1903

The Peter in Illinois 1880 is not your man. There is perhaps another Peter living with Oliver in 1903. (Perhaps a brother?) City directories typically don't give biographical data other than address, phone, occupation, so any detail about that Peter would have to be found in the 1900 or the 1910 census or some other record.

Peter A Everson is likely to be Oliver's brother - see the 1885 census jkmarler posted, where Olaf Severin has a brother Peter A who is a Sømand - seaman. The directory says Peter is a "miner." I wonder if Peter (or someone else) said Peter was a "mariner."
We could maybe guess Oliver has gotten his brother a job with the same shipping company as he works for...just a guess.
The 1885 census also shows a sister HILDA for the Olaf Severin in Norway. Your Oliver named his first-born Hilda.
The US census shows your Oliver S. had a son IVAR.

These latest findings greatly add to the evidence that this is the right family. I am tempted to say it is proven.

Back in an edit - jkmarler posted at same time - yes indeed the person in Chicago is not related to your family (at least no more than I am - no evidence suggests they are related)

I'm pretty sure we have located your Oliver Everson as Olaf Severin Iversen, born 06 Nov 1859 in Bergen, Hordaland, Norway
Both his parents died in Norway, and I assume they were never in America.
His father died 25 May 1889 in Bergen, Hordaland, Norway. He was born in Bergen.
His mother died 01 Aug 1898 in Bergen, Hordaland, Norway. She was born in Bolsø parish, Møre og Romsdal, Norway.

The Peter A in the same household sounds like his brother Petter Antonius Iversen born 11 Oct 1867.

Here's that 1885 census from jkmarler - an awesome finding that clinches the deal:

1885 census for Bergen, Norway

Ingeret Iversen born 1824 at Molde, Hustru (housewife)
Pedr Th. Iversen born 1856 in Bergen, Ophold hos Faderen
Olaf S. Iversen born 1859 Bergen, Sømand = seaman
Hilda M Iversen born 1862 Bergen, Syjomfru
Marius N Iversen born 1864 Bergen, Retusheur
Peter A Iversen born 1868 Bergen, Sømand

from Kåre:
1865 census in Domkirkens Sogn, Bergen
Peder Gerhard Iversen, Logerende Handelsmand, married, 37, b Bergen
Inger Anna Iversen* født Røbek [born Røbek] , 40, wife, b Molde
Petro Theodor Iversen, 10, son, b Bergen
Olaf Severin Iversen, 7, son, b Bergen
Gunhilda Martine Iversen, 5, daughter, b Bergen [ = Hilda]
Marius Nicolai Iversen, 2, son, b Bergen

Wow.
So much info in a few hours

I had a strong feeling Olaf was Oliver.
Ths would not have worked without the cooperation of both sides of the Atlantic.
Without the good feedback from Nancy this might have ended in a brick-wall

I believe Inger Anna Olsdatter Røbeck was born on Bolsøy April 10. 1824.

Applause! Cheers for all, and thanks to Nancy for hanging in there and working with the forum, and special kudos to Kåre for the initial finding.
