Ole Ingebrektsen Knudsmyr died as "fattiglem" poorpauper on Hofsmoen Feb. 20. 1870 #

Hofsmoen is a farm in Ytre (outher) Sandsvær, Efteløt.
Knudsmyr was also a farm in Ytre Sandsvær.

I do not think you had to be a married couple to be a "Husmand" crofter, but if you did not marry you had no need for a farm.
There were two kind of crofters; With land or without land. Normally a crofter owned the housed but leased the land.
The annual rent was stipulated in a contract.
Maturity was late Descember

John Narversen and Aslaug Olsdatter married Oct. 12. 1844.
Again the rec. tells he was born on Bjørndalen (Bear valley) in Jondalen at Sandtjern (Sandtjern is a small forest lake) #26

They married in Hedenstad

John and Aslaug got 14 children, some died young, 4 em. to America.
Do you have the names or what happened to them?

Barbro Maria, birth: 24 Mar 1845, chr: 15 Jun 1845, Hedenstad, Buskerud, Norway she married Bengt Svensson Landin either in Norway or Sweden their oldest daughter Alma is listed on U. S census data as being born in Norway. they had 8 children Aslaug Olsdatter died at her funeral Jan 1894 they are buried together in New Sweden Aroostook county Maine. Her and Bengt were the first to arrive in 1873 . I dont know what year Aslaug came over but i have a picture of the headstone and heard the story of her dying at Maria funeral she is also listed as delivering some of her grandchildren on birthrecord's

Marthe Gurine, birth: 31 Jul 1846, chr: 13 Sep 1846, Hedenstad, Buskerud, Norway this one i think dies there is a later one b. 1851 with the same name she stays in Norway marries a Nils Martin Olsen Goli b. abt 1870 in the 1900 Census they have 2 Children the age difference is strange. Also she has a Illegitimate son Ellef in 1872.

Narve, birth: 04 Feb 1848, chr: 30 Jul 1848, Hedenstad, Buskerud, Norway think he stayed in Norway and married . Not sure

Rise Kattrine, birth: 01 Sep 1854, chr: 05 Nov 1854, Sandsvær, Buskerud, Norway she married Carl Olsen from Asker their oldest daugther anne was b.1883 in norway they had 8 children lived in New Sweden.

Berthe Karine, birth: 25 Jun 1857, chr: 28 Jun 1857, Sandsvær, Buskerud, Norway she married Petter Sandstrom from sweden they were married in New Sweden they had 4 children.

Anna Sophie, birth: 05 Sep 1859, chr: 06 Nov 1859, Sandsvær, Buskerud, Norway she married Andrew Fritof Zetterman fr. sweden married in New Sweden Maine they have 5 Children.

Andreas, birth: 29 Jan 1867, chr: 03 Feb 1867, Sandsvær, Buskerud, Norway I am not positive about him but I think he marries in Worschester Massachusetts to a Petra Olsen fr. norway and goes by the name Andrew. Johnson he immigrated in 1882 with my g grandfather Tinius and Ole.

Johanne, birth: 13 Sep 1869, chr: 13 Sep 1869, Sandsvær, Buskerud, Norway, death: 1869

Anne Johanne, birth: 25 Oct 1870, chr: 02 Nov 1870, Sandsvær, Buskerud, Norway I think she dies in 1878 I need to look that up.

Ole, birth: 25 Dec 1861, chr: 04 Feb 1862, Sandsvær, Buskerud, Norway my Aunt remembers him he never married and had a small house on my g grandfather's farm.

Tinius, birth: 15 Jan 1864, chr: 07 Feb 1864, Sandsvær, Buskerud, Norway this is my G. Grandfather he married In Worcester Massachusetts Augusta Horm she is from Trosa Soder Sweden they had 8 Children one being my grandfather Gilbert Johnson b. 1908
Most of the Children of the ones that Immigrated had very large familys, they all ended up in New Sweden Maine if you look at the census records for 1900 its very easy to trace the family they are the only Norweigans in Town everyone else is from Sweden. My Dad grew up in New Sweden I spent many summers there as kid It was like going to a different country my grandparents spoke swedish they celebrated misdsommer they had a large farm family heritage was a very big thing. If you look up Maines Swedish colony they have a web site. Thanks Kim

Im not really religious but there is just something about churches you can just feel the history. I have a picture of the church in Hedenstad on my family tree for John Narveson on Ancestry.com. I have picture's of Tinius and also the Landin family if I could figure out how to post them.

Marthe Gurine b. 1851, her children;
- Ellef Torstenesn 1872 (father Torsten Ellefsen Hassel) moved 1897 to Hof parish, Vestfold county.
- Mathilde Olava 1889 (father Nils Martin Goli)
- Anna Olava 1893 (father Nils Martin Olsen Goli)

Nils Martin Goli b. 1872 was a young servant boy on Hvåla in Sandsvær when he met Marthe Gurine

- Narve 1848 married 1890 Dorthea Pedersdater Saga/Kisgruben.
He is rec. as Arve Johnsen age 18 in the 1865 census as servant boy on farm Brende, and Arve Johnsen Brende born Meheia when he married Dorothea. His father is rec. as John Arversen Sandtjørn/Sandtjern.
Sandtjern in Gransherad is where he was born when he married Aslaug Olsdatter.
- Narve/Arves marriage Oct. 17. 1890 is #8

His date of born 1848 is rec. b.1845 in the wedding rec. b. 1849 when his daughter Anna was born and b. 1845 when he died on Hvamsal-eie Nov. 20. 1898, a sub farm under Hvamsal, Efleløt in Sandsvær as "g.m.løsarbeider" married man and daylaborer born 1845 on Medheien/Meheia #9

His wife Dorthea, occ, a little work, supported by the municipality and widow on Hvamsal, a stepson Peder and a dau. Anna in 1900
- Peder was not a stepson, he was born March. 15. 1879, 11 years before the parents married.

Once in awhile Ancestry has something on Norway, it has Ellef marrying Petra Ollete Antondatter Jan 30 1898 in Hof .Found the marrige record. no census record. What is really strange under the death records same area they have a son Torevald Ellefsen who dies on on the 19th of Jan 1898 right before their wedding.

Here is Elef and Olette on farm Solberg, nordre (northern) in Hof parish with a son Alf b. 1899 in 1900

Good finding.
Alf was buried in the cemetery at Svarstad church in Lardal.

Alf was married to Inga b. 1896, she died Dec. 13. 1974

Good morning. Yes it was passed midnight in Norway.
"Gravminner" Tombstones in Norway

A project based on volunteers from the genalogy association Dis-Norge to capture and record all tombstones in Norway and get them published is going on.
